About the Faculty and Staff

Christopher Dievendorf
Technical Theatre Apprentice

My love of theatre began with magic. Most children are fascinated by magicians and I was no different; my grandmother took me to see a magician when I was just about four years old. She took our family to see Fiddler on the Roof the following year; I remember liking that so much more. It went on longer, there were so many more people, but it was still the same magic show to a five year old. I joined a drama club in junior high and performed in theatre all through high school, I even lettered as a Thespian and it was still magical. I joined a performance group in my early twenties and here I formed the strongest, longest friendships of my life. I’m thirty-six now and I’ve been married to one of my fellow performers for twelve years, and yep, still magic.

For most of my life I’ve made a living as a professional fabricator for museums, zoos and entertainment companies; loving to perform but more talented as a builder and maker. About a decade ago, I came back to Chaffey College to gain an art degree; I worked at the Wignall Gallery here on campus under Rebecca Trawick for six years, gaining valuable training and experience as an art handler and gallery assistant. While still a student, I took acting classes, performed in a production (The Bald Soprano) and took the theatre tech class. I really fell in love with that feeling of magic and family all over again, but it would be nearly four years before I made the transition from museum to theatre. Now I work as a scenic artist and prop builder; I have been able to take my years as a fabricator and apply it to the theatre arts. I feel like I’m right where I belong doing what I love with people I like. In my time here I am proud to have helped create productions like Fahrenheit 451, The Larime project, BatBoy the Musical, multiple dance shows, and All in the Timing.
