RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA. - Chaffey College will host 200 international delegates as they prepare for the 2015 Special Olympics World Games in Los Angeles. The college will provide indoor and outdoor training facilities for athletes and coaches from four countries being hosted by the cities of Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga.

Delegations of Special Olympics athletes from Iceland, Iraq, Seychelles and Cote d’lvoire will utilize the college’s two gyms, as well as Grigsby Stadium as they prepare for the international sporting event which begins in Los Angeles July 25. More than 7,000 athletes from 177 countries are expected to compete in these games, making it the largest sports and humanitarian event in the world this year and the single biggest event in Los Angeles since the 1984 Olympic Games.

“Chaffey College is proud to partner with Ontario and Rancho Cucamonga’s Host Town programs to provide local facilities for these amazing athletes to train,” stated Dr. Henry Shannon, Chaffey College Superintendent/President. “We look forward to welcoming athletes and coaches to the college and wishing them luck in the World Games. This is a special opportunity for our communities to join together to participate in the Special Olympics experience.”

Community members are invited to the college’s Rancho Cucamonga Campus Thursday morning, from 10 – 11 a.m. to show the athletes encouragement during the teams’ scheduled open workout. The campus is located on Haven Avenue, just north of the 210 freeway. Free parking will be available in designated lots.
