(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) Chaffey College will test its emergency action plan with a lock-down drill on Thursday, April 2, 2009 at 10:10am and 7:10pm. The purpose of the exercise is to prepare the campus community, students, faculty and staff the steps to take in the event of an emergency that requires the campus to be locked down. The drill will be conducted at all college campuses, Rancho Cucamonga, Chino, and Fontana. A brief video was made available through the college's video on demand program. College faculty and staff were encouraged to view the video prior to the drill to better educate them in the event of an active shooter incident.

On April 2, at two times (10:10am and 7:10 pm) the campus community will be notified of the campus emergency through the telephone notification system in each classroom and office, immediately following the notification the actual lock down exercise will occur. The campus police chief will give an "all clear" to the participants which will conclude the exercise.

In addition to the exercise, the college will send a text message via AlertU(r) emergency text messaging notification system messages to the subscribers. Also, an email will be distributed to all Chaffey College email accounts assigned to faculty, staff, and administrators.

Chaffey College first tested its enhanced emergency notification system in November, as part of the Great Southern California Shakeout. "The Shakeout Earthquake drill in November was excellent but we want to continue to train and test the effectiveness of our emergency system," stated Dr. Henry Shannon, superintendent/president. "We are continuously working to upgrade our emergency procedures in order to make our campus community, and the community at large, safer," he added. "We will continue to conduct emergency exercises each semester," said Dr. Shannon.

Information regarding the exercise is available on the Chaffey College website homepage, the campus emergency information phone line (909) 652-6117, ChaffeyVision (the college in-house TV broadcast).

For additional information, contact the Chaffey College campus police office at 909/652-6630.
