(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) Chaffey College Governing Board Trustee, Paul Gomez was elected the executive board of the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) at the May board meeting. Gomez is the first Chaffey College trustee to serve on this statewide board and first to be elected on the CCCT executive board.

Gomez was appointed to serve on the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) board in 2010 and was elected to a 3-year term in 2011 and 2014. At the May CCCT board meeting Gomez was elected to the position of Second Vice President on the CCCT executive board. The Second Vice President performs the duties of the First Vice President in the absence of that officer and other duties as assigned by the President or by the CCCT Board and serve as a member of the League Board of Directors.

“I am honored to be elected to serve as Second Vice President on the CCCT board,” said Gomez. “In this role I will advocate on behalf of community college districts and most importantly the students,” he adds. “Ahead are many opportunities and challenges for colleges, I’m honored to be a member of the leadership team,” says Gomez.

“Mr. Gomez is an excellent ambassador of Chaffey College and supporter of community college education,” said Dr. Henry Shannon, superintendent/president. “We are pleased to have a local representative and voice on state issues,” added Dr. Shannon.

Gomez was appointed to the Chaffey College Governing Board in 1990 and has been re-elected six times in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011. He has served as Governing Board president four times.

In addition, Gomez has served in a number of capacities in national, state, and local organizations associations, focusing on diverse issues and education. He is the co-founder of two regional community college and CEO associations: the Inland Valley Trustees and CEO Association (IVTCEO) and the San Gabriel/Foothill/Foothill Association of Community Colleges (SanFACC). Gomez is the past president of the national Association of Latino Community College Trustees and was a member and officer of the California Association of Latino Community College Trustees.

The California Community College Trustees (CCCT) board represents the locally elected trustees from California's 72 community college districts. The 21-member board meets five times each year and takes positions on legislation and budget issues affecting community colleges, and assists in the development of leadership development programs supporting trustees. CCCT and its partner policy board, the Chief Executive Officers of the California Community Colleges, within the Community College League of California, a nonprofit public benefit corporation serving community college districts in government relations and policy development, leadership development, and district services.
