(Rancho Cucamonga) The Chaffey College Foundation is hosting the 2014 Alumni of the Year/Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner on Thursday, April 3 at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario. The event begins with a reception at 5:30 pm, followed by dinner at 6:30pm.

The Alumni of the Year award recognizes individuals who have attended Chaffey College and served the community in an exemplary manner. Individuals are recognized for their service to the community, for being an outstanding citizen, and for serving as an representative of the Chaffey College alumni.

The 2014 Chaffey College Alumni of the Year recipients are Hobart "Hobie" Alter, Al C. Boling, and Meagan Tandy. Hobie Alter is a pioneer in the surfboard shaping industry, creator of the "Hobie Cat", and founder of the Hobie Company. Alter studied business administration at Chaffey College in 1953. He said that he created his first business plan at Chaffey College which he used to start the Hobie Company, a successful surfboard business.

Another outstanding Chaffey College alumnus is Al C. Boling. Boling earned an Associate degree in general education in 1987 from Chaffey College. Today, he is the City Manager of the City of Ontario, California. Boling has made significant contributions to the City of Ontario during his 18 year employment and through his superior community service. Boling is committed to the community and is currently leading the "Set Ontario Free" movement to gain local control of the Ontario International Airport.

The third Alumni of the Year recipient is Meagan Tandy. Meagan is a graduate of Chaffey College earning an Associate degree in liberal arts and sciences in 2008 the year after she was crowned Miss California USA. In 2003 Meagan launched GIRL TALK a seminar and mentoring program for young girls ages 12-16. Today, Meagan is a successful actress and model. She currently plays Lulu Pope on the ABC Family show "Jane By Design" and Braeden on the MTV series "Teen Wolf."

The collaborative event also includes the Athletic Hall of Fame award for outstanding Chaffey College student- athletes. The Athletic Hall of Fame award honors individuals who have either participated in or provided service to the Chaffey College athletic program. The college has not only benefited from their participation, but has valued from their service to the community.

The alumni athletes being inducted into the 2014 Chaffey College Athletic Hall of Fame are Prentice Harris, Robert "Bob" Stangel, and Christopher Stevens. Prentice Harris was a member of the Chaffey College Men's Basketball Team from 2001-2003, earning an All-Foothill Conference title and scholarship. Today, Harris is an adjunct professor and assistant men's basketball coach at Chaffey College,

Robert "Bob" Stangel, was the Chaffey Panther's quarterback in 1960 who lead the team to a league title. Stangel, a natural athlete also played on the 1961 Chaffey baseball team. Bob remained in athletics throughout his career and served as head football coach at Mt. San Jacinto College until his retirement in 2003.

Christopher Stevens led the Chaffey College women's basketball as head coach from 1990 to 2002, winning six Foothill Conference titles. Stevens is currently employed at Los Osos High School as a psychology teacher and was the former girls' basketball coach.

This year's recipients will be recognized at the Annual Alumni of the Year/Athletic Hall of Fame Dinner on April 3, 2014 at the Doubletree Hotel in Ontario. The event begins with a reception at 5:30 pm, with dinner following at 6:30 pm. The event is open to the public. Tickets are available through the Chaffey College Foundation for $60 per person or $450 per table of 8.
