Phlebotomy Technician

The Phlebotomist is trained in obtaining blood samples for various tests. These courses will teach the process for obtaining, labeling, and transporting blood specimens. The primary goal of the phlebotomy technician program is to educate students with didactic, laboratory, and clinical experience. The program encompasses emerging and innovative technology in preparation for a health care career as a Phlebotomist Technician. The curriculum is designed to meet the standards established by the California Department of Health, Laboratory Field Services, Clinical Laboratory Improvements Act 88’ (CLIA), and Clinical laboratory Standards Institute (CLSI). Upon successful completion of the course, students are eligible to sit for the National Center for Competency Testing certificate and are eligible for immediate employment.

Information Sessions will be IN-PERSON only. Students are required to attend an Information Session in order to apply to the program.

Admissions to the Program:

WHAT ARE THE PRE-REQUISITES TO THE PROGRAM?

  1. Must be 18 years old.  
  2. Must attend a Phlebotomy Technician Information Session
  3. Apply to Chaffey College to become a student (must have a Chaffey College student ID number to submit a Phlebotomy Technician application.)
  4. Submit Phlebotomy Technician application with high school transcript, GED or equivalent by the deadline date.
  5. Complete health requirements – More information given at the Information Session, personal health insurance check.
  6. Clear drug screen – More information given at the Information Session
  7. Clear background check – More information given at the Information Session

HOW ARE STUDENTS SELECTED FOR THE PHLEBOTOMY TECHNICIAN PROGRAM? Student applicants will be chosen from a random process when the application period ends. More information will be given at the Information Session.

Application Process & Forms:

Phlebotomy Technician Application Form: The application link will be emailed to students that have attended a mandatory Information Session.  Students that are interested in applying to the program MUST attend a mandatory Information Session.

Due to limited staffing, we cannot provide status inquiries during the application period. Applicants will be notified of their application status within 1 week of the application's closing date.

After the Application Period: STUDENTS WILL BE NOTIFIED OF ACCEPTANCE AND PROVIDED WITH INFORMATION TO ATTEND A MANDATORY NEW STUDENT ORIENTATION. During the orientation students will be asked to complete health screening requirements, CPR certification, drug screening, and background clearance before the first day of classes.

  • Full-time program- Students are enrolled in a 1-semester program held at the Chaffey College Fontana Campus. Classes are typically scheduled during the daytime. Mandatory clinicals are scheduled during the week at a local hospital or outpatient clinic approved by the CDPH. Students should expect to be in class or at clinicals approximately 3 days per week.
