Program Information and Curriculum

Upon completion of the Registered Dental Assisting Program, you will acquire a Dental Assisting Certificate of Completion, the California Radiation Safety Certificate, Pit and Fissure Certificate* and the Coronal Polishing Certificate* (*must pass RDA Examination to activate). Only CP and Pit Fissure do they need the RDA to activate. Please Add- Infection Control and Dental Practice Act

The program gives students access to:

  • Supervised practice sessions at Loma Linda University School of Dentistry. Students work with student dentists and experience using techniques and skills required to be a successful dental team member.
  • Internships at local dental offices where students will receive practical, hands-on experience.
  • Community interaction such as delivering presentations to help educate school children about oral hygiene and nutrition.
  • Meeting with local dentists for career advisement.
  • Eligibility to join the American Dental Assistants Association, California Dental Assistant Association, and Pomona Valley Dental Assistant Society.

 

Program Goals:

  • Provide an enriched curriculum with an academic, technical, and clinical environment that prepares Dental Assisting students for successful completion and employment as a dental care professional.
  • Prepare students to communicate effectively and provide competent chairside and technical skills in a variety of dental health care facilities and settings.
  • Prepare students to successfully complete the California State Board Exam (RDA).
  • Provide students and faculty with the opportunity to become a lifelong learner through participation in professional growth activities that provide applicable experiences and knowledge.
  • Uphold professional standards by adhering to legal and ethical responsibilities related to dental professionals and the scope of practice.
  • Create partnerships that will link students with oral health care professionals who will provide advising, mentoring and enrichment experiences in preparation for employment.

 

Dental Assisting Gainful Employment:

  • Dental Assistants are important members of the dental health team. Dental Assistants greatly increase the efficiency of the dentist in delivery of quality oral health care. You must be a team-oriented individual who enjoys working with people.
  • Upon graduation and licensure, you will find that employment positions are available in dental offices, hospitals, clinics, dental schools, and professional sales. Dental Assisting offers variety, flexibility, excellent working conditions, and personal satisfaction.
  • According to the latest Bureau of Labor Statistics, “Dental Assistant employment is expected to increase much faster than average; job prospects are expected to be excellent. “
  • Current Salaries in the Los Angeles Area are $17.50 to $18.00 without RDA license
