Mapping Articulated Pathways

MAP is a software application that colleges like Chaffey use to help students receive credit for what they already know. This process is called Credit for Prior Learning (CPL). MAP helps colleges compare their courses with learning from military service, work experience, or professional training. It uses recommendations from organizations like the American Council on Education (ACE), along with guidance from statewide discipline faculty, to determine what credit may be awarded.

Faculty play a key role in this process. Discipline faculty from across the state review learning experiences and make recommendations about how they align with college courses. At Chaffey, faculty also evaluate and approve articulations, ensuring that any credit awarded reflects the college’s academic standards.

MAP also helps manage the student workflow for CPL requests. It organizes and tracks each step of the process, from when a student submits a request to when a final decision is made. The goal is to create a more streamlined experience and reduce the time it takes for students to receive a decision.

Once course matches, also called articulations, are created in MAP, they are stored in the system and can be accessed by faculty and staff involved in reviewing CPL requests. This makes the process more efficient, consistent, and transparent for everyone.
