Celebrating Women's History Month
March 2, 2026
Dear Campus Community,
Women are a significant part of the Chaffey College community — from students, and our dedicated faculty and staff, to executive leadership and our Governing Board. We are home to many female trailblazers, innovators and boundary breakers.
That is why Women’s History Month holds particular significance for us. Chaffey is a place where everyone is welcome, a place where diversity, equity and inclusion are a priority. And we are grateful for all the women who make Chaffey a wonderful place to work, learn and grow.
It is difficult to imagine that less than 200 years ago, earning a college degree was almost completely out of reach for women in America. And it was uncommon to find them in faculty roles in public coed colleges prior to the 1970s.
But today, women make up nearly 60 percent of our student population, and they lead 52 of the 116 community college campuses. More than 54 percent of the full-time faculty at community colleges throughout the state are women.
We are proud to celebrate the accomplishments and contributions of women throughout the country this month. Please join us for a variety of Women’s History Month events happening on campus. You can also learn more about women’s history by visiting the Chaffey College Library’s LibGuide.
Sincerely,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
Superintendent/President
