Remembering Troy
January 21, 2026
Dear Campus Community,
Troy Ament was not only a dedicated and impactful leader at Chaffey, he was a friend to many. Since his passing, we have heard many stories, shared memories, and made tributes to Troy in our hearts.
Since the start of the spring semester, it has been particularly moving to see our students occupy the beautiful new Library Learning Commons (LLC) for the first time – a moment that Troy and so many of us have looked forward to since we broke ground.
Troy was planning a very special grand opening ceremony for the LLC, and we have every intent on ensuring that his vision for this momentous occasion is carried out.
To that end, the college has learned that Troy’s memorial service will be taking place on Thursday, January 29, the same day as the LLC grand opening ceremony. For this reason, the decision has been made to reschedule the LLC grand opening to Thursday, February 12, from 12- 1:30 p.m. A new invitation will be sent out shortly so that those who previously RSVP’d can do so again for the rescheduled event.
We know that Troy had many friends and colleagues at Chaffey College who may wish to pay their respects. Troy’s family has shared they can accommodate a limited number of Chaffey employees at his memorial service. Out of respect for the family’s wishes, details about Troy’s memorial will be shared upon request on a first-come, first-served basis through an interest list that will be circulated by the end of the week.
Show Your Support
For those who wish, Troy’s family has requested that in lieu of flowers, donations can be made to St. Peter Chanel Catholic Church or to St. Michael’s Abbey.
Additionally, for those who wish to pay tribute to Troy in other ways, a digital greeting card and a tribute wall have been created for the campus community. Your messages and photos will be shared with Troy’s family.
Lastly, I invite you to learn more about Troy’s legacy at Chaffey College in this
article posted in Chaffey News.
In his memory,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
Superintendent/President
