Happy Hispanic Heritage Day Month

Dear Campus Community,

Each year from September 15 to October 15, our nation observes Hispanic Heritage Month — a time to celebrate the histories, cultures and countless contributions of Hispanic and Latino Americans.

This observance holds special meaning at Chaffey College. As a Hispanic-Serving Institution where more than half of our students identify as Hispanic or Latino, we carry a deep responsibility — and a deep privilege — to reflect the richness of that identity in everything we do, from the classroom to the community events we host together.

Nationally, Latinos are now the largest racial or ethnic group in the country, with more than 60 million Americans identifying as Latino, according to the U.S. Census Bureau. That growth is a powerful reminder of the influence Latino communities continue to have in shaping our shared future — in education, in culture, and here at Chaffey.

I encourage you to take part in this month's observance, whether through campus events, conversations with colleagues and students, or simply learning something new. The Chaffey College Library has put together a wonderful starting point: the Hispanic & Latinx Heritage Guide.

Here are some upcoming events for Hispanic Heritage Month:

• Hispanic Heritage Kick Off: Noon to 2 p.m. Sept. 16, Rancho Cucamonga campus quad. Live music and entertainment, Latin American food (while supplies last) and more activities.
• Chaffey Flix screening of “Encanto”: 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday Sept. 17, Student Life lounge
• Bad Bunny Karaoke Night: 4 to 6 p.m. Monday Sept. 21, Student Life lounge
• Salsa and Bachata Workshop: Noon to 2 p.m. Tuesday Sept. 22, Student Life lounge
• Hispanic Heritage Month and Día de los Muertos Calaveras (skulls) Workshops
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 29 – Chino Campus – CHMB-149
• 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Sept. 30 – Fontana Campus – Fontana Quad
• 12:30 to 2 p.m. p.m. Oct. 1 – Rancho Campus – MACC
