Celebrating Pride Month at Chaffey College
June 1, 2025
Dear Campus Community,
Each June, we come together to recognize and celebrate the many extraordinary contributions of the LGBTQIA+ community as well as the impact of queer historical figures on our nation’s history, culture, and society.
Pride Month is also a time to reflect on and honor the historic and ongoing struggle for civil rights and equality. At Chaffey, we continue our work to create a community where all students, faculty and staff feel safe, seen, and empowered to be their authentic selves. Events and programs hosted throughout the year by PRISM and our Center for Culture and Social Justice help raise awareness for LGBTQIA+ rights and provide opportunities for our students to build community.
We are grateful to our on-campus LGBTQIA+ Advocates committee who are dedicated to helping make Chaffey College a more supportive campus. A recent initiative is the new Safe With Me online form which allows students to connect with an ally when they need someone to talk to. Chaffey leadership stands in partnership with our advocates through open dialogue and action focused on improved resources and methods of communication to uplift our LGBTQIA+ community.
Of course, Pride Month is also about celebration and learning. Thank you to our library professionals who have assembled the Chaffey College library Pride Guide, which has a curated series of films, resources and biographies highlighting such notable LGBTQIA+ figures as Harvey Milk, Billie Jean King, and Barbara Gittings – please enjoy at your leisure!
Lastly, on June 5, we invite students, faculty, staff and community members to join us for a PRIDE “Carnival” celebration in the Quad on the Rancho Cucamonga Campus from 4 – 6 p.m.
Regardless of who you love or how you identify, know that you are welcome and that you belong at Chaffey! Happy Pride!
Sincerely,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
