Celebrating Black History Month
January 31, 2025
Dear Campus Community,
I am proud to be a part of a diverse campus community that embraces all cultures, and raises up people and communities of color throughout the year. That is why I am excited to share with you our upcoming Black History Month activities here at Chaffey College.
Our dedicated faculty and staff have been hard at work planning and organizing a series of events in celebration of the many contributions Black Americans have made to our country.
From music, discussion panels and a movie screening, to our annual Hip Hop Studies Summit, there will be a wide variety of events for you to enjoy. Here are some to mark on your calendars:
- Monday, February 3 – Black History Month kick-off with music activities, resources and food (while supplies last) in the Rancho Cucamonga Campus quad – Noon to 2 p.m.
- Wednesday, February 19 – Black Excellence Panel via Zoom – 6 p.m.
- Thursday, February 20 – Chaffey Flix screening of “King Richard” in Student Life – 4 to 6 p.m.
- February 26-28 – Hip Hop Studies Summit – Registration and event information available soon
A big part of our nation’s progression has come from the work we do in higher education. You can learn more about Black History Month through the Chaffey College Library Libguide. I look forward to seeing you at these February events.
Sincerely,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
