Phi Theta Kappa is a nonprofit honor society that recognizes and promotes the academic achievement of community college students worldwide. PTK offers its members distinct opportunities to develop professional and leadership competencies, obtain scholarships, investigate various career options, and establish a lifelong network of supportive peers and reliable mentors.

Member Benefits

  • Prestigious Recognition: PTK is recognized by the American Association of Community Colleges (AACC) as the official honor society for two-year colleges. Members are in the top 10% of community college students, reflecting members’ commitment and dedication.
  • Scholarships: Each year, awards totaling millions are awarded. PTK offers its members three types of scholarships: competitive, need-based, and university partner scholarships.
    • Competitive: Designed to acknowledge and reward students demonstrating exceptional academic achievement and leadership. Each application undergoes a thorough evaluation by a panel of judges who select the most distinguished scholars nationwide. Notable examples of these scholarships include the Coca-Cola World Impact Scholars, the American Medical Student Association Scholarship, and the All-USA Academic Team Scholarship.
    • Need-Based: The Oberndorf Foundation grants PTK the opportunity to offer thousands of dollars each year in emergency funds. This scholarship is designed to help members who are facing unexpected financial barriers.
  • University Partner Scholarships: These scholarships offer vital financial support to community college transfer students. Hundreds of four-year colleges provide transfer awards specifically for Phi Theta Kappa members to acknowledge academic achievement and leadership.
    • Professional Development: Membership gives you unlimited access to numerous courses that help you prepare for transferring to a four-year college, strengthen your career abilities, and encourage personal growth. Subjects range from salary negotiation and time management to stress management, effective body language, workplace professionalism, and more.
