With life-sized cutouts of student leaders on display and stories of personal growth through leadership, Chaffey College presented its annual Report to the Community on Nov. 5 at the Jessie Turner Center in Fontana.

Chaffey College Student Government President/Trustee Matthew Caddell spoke about the leadership skills he has gained as a Chaffey student and how he now passes these skills onto others.

“Chaffey College has repeatedly provided me, and countless others, with the platforms necessary for this growth, and for that, I am deeply grateful,” he said.

Governing Board President Gloria Negrete-McLeod thanked the hundreds of community members in attendance for supporting student success.

“Everyone here today represents a city, high school, public office, or a field of interest that has a profound impact on our students’ futures,” she said. “On behalf of the Chaffey College Governing Board, we are grateful for the collective effort of every individual who has a vested interest in our students.”

The event, carrying the theme of “Building Tomorrow's Leaders,” included a video feature that focused on how Chaffey empowers students by encouraging them to take on leadership roles outside of the classroom. The video showcased Fontana-based programs such as Physical Therapist Assistant and the accelerated EMT program, as well as a sneak-peek at the new Fontana campus estimated to open in 2029.

Chaffey also updated the community on its expansion projects to meet student needs, all thanks to the support of taxpayers through Measure P.

The event included tributes to Ellen Turner, the daughter of the late Jessie Turner, for whom the venue was named, as well as Chaffey College Governing Board Member Kathleen Brugger, who retired in November.

“Ms. Brugger, on behalf of the Board and our Executive Leadership Team - thank you for your years of advocacy, leadership and support of Chaffey College and our students. We will miss you,” said Chaffey College Superintendent/President Henry D. Shannon.
