Celebrated Filmmaker Moisés Zamora Selected as Chaffey College Commencement Speaker
April 18, 2025
Dear Campus Community,
I am excited to announce that our keynote speaker for our 108th Commencement Ceremony will be award-winning writer and filmmaker Moisés Zamora, who is the visionary behind the global hit “Selena: The Series” on Netflix.
Zamora is the creator, executive producer and co-showrunner of the show, which won the award for “Best Dramatic Series” through the Imagen Awards.
Commencement, celebrating the achievements of thousands of Chaffey students, will be at Toyota Arena in Ontario on May 22.
Moisés Zamora’s success story serves as an inspiration for us all. The adversities he faced as a child fueled his award-winning storytelling, leading him down a path toward many triumphs in the film industry.
Early in his career, Zamora received the “Binational Literary Prize for Young Novel Border of Words” for his coming-of-age novel “Susurros bajo el agua” (“Whispers Under the Water”), written in Spanish.
He has also produced and directed the feature documentary “Young+Mexican” (Best Documentary by a Mexican Director, Oaxaca FilmFest).
He has written for the TV series “American Crime,” “Star,” and “Star Wars: The Bad Batch.” Zamora has sold four TV series and is currently preparing to direct two feature films. A graduate of Brown University, he was born in Mexico and immigrated to the U.S. at the age of eleven.
We are honored to feature Zamora as our commencement keynote speaker.
Sincerely,
Henry D. Shannon, Ph.D.
