Overview 

This proposal outlines the topics in First Time Supervisor Training. The intent is to provide a foundational program that allows existing supervisors and newly promoted supervisors to understand the critical skills to success as a supervisor. This training program is designed to facilitate learning in a non-threatening and accessible manner. Specifically, this training program will utilize plain language, multiple learning styles and interactive exercises all designed to teach key supervisory concepts. 

 Objectives 

 

  1. Teach fundamentals of supervisory skills
  2. Teach fundamentals of problem-solving analytics
  3. Develop communication skill expertise 
  4. Teach process of goal setting and achievement
  5. Develop model and practice of effective empowerment 

 Contents 

 The following modules would be covered in the supervisory skills training program. 

 Performance Management  

Performance management has two distinct yet interrelated dimensions that the successful supervisor must master. The first relates to supervising the individual performance of the employee while the second is managing the performance of the process they are responsible for. This module seeks to develop the expertise of participants in managing the performance system at the ground level. We cover the process of feedback, one on ones, quarterly and yearly reviews as a starting point. Key performance indicators will be explored and discussed.  

 Effective Communication  

This segment introduces the participant to effective communication skills. We will cover the areas of public speaking, listening and written communication. Since written communication forms the foundation of communication effectiveness we will also explore grammar, style and formatting for communication effectiveness. 

 Solving Problems / Analytics  

Participants will be challenged to learn and understand how to use flow charts and straight forward data analysis techniques to understand process performance and to solve problems.. 

 Goal Setting / Empowerment  

Specific skills in this module includes the development of smart goals tied to corporate strategic planning as well as the development of an empowerment culture.
