It is our pleasure to
welcome all students and faculty to the Chaffey College Language Success
Center.
Our central mission is to help students become more effective and more
confident writers and readers. As an integral part of across-the-curriculum
writing instruction on this campus, the Language Success Center exists to help
students improve their ability to communicate on paper in whatever
discipline they are following. The Language Success Center's philosophy
is that writing is a process (i.e., a continuous act of thinking, drafting,
revising, rewriting, and editing). Using this concept as a foundation,
Language Success Center instructors and tutors help student writers improve
their skills by teaching them strategies that take them through each
stage of the writing process. Some of the tasks a tutor might
help a student accomplish include selecting a topic, generating ideas,
developing and revising working drafts, dealing with issues of style,
and acquiring proofreading and editing skills.
Language Success Center instructors and tutors
do not dictate content, edit, proofread, or co-author student papers,
nor do they predict what sort of grade an assignment might earn.
Visit the Language Success Center Rules page for a copy of the "Writing Center Info Guide," the Writing Center's
rules
and guidelines, and the policy on Internet usage..
