Gary

Gary Reinschmidt
Stage Technician
Production Technical Director

gary.reinschmidt@chaffey.edu

Gary began his theatrical career right here at Chaffey College, studying under C. A. Sheppard and Broadway veteran Ralph Strane (Damn Yankees, Kismet). His principal field of interest was as a performer in Musical Theatre. He has appeared in over 150 productions throughout Southern California, performing everything from Shakespeare to David Mamet and Sam Shepard, and singing roles from Cole Porter and Rodgers and Hammerstein to Stephen Sondheim.

Along the way he developed an interest in the technical side of Theatre and began "helping out" with building, painting, and installing sets. He landed a few part-time jobs in various community, college and professional theaters, doing numerous tech assignments, all the while learning under some very skilled professionals. His background includes Scenic Design and Construction, Lighting, Audio, and Stage Management. He also free-lanced as a carpenter/production assistant on several Television programs including The Garry Shandling Show, Dick Clark's American Bandstand, Top of the Pops, and The HBO Comedy Hour.

He served as resident Stage Manager/Production Coordinator for the Candlelight Pavilion for 10 years and as Theatre Production Manager at Fullerton College before returning to Chaffey to join the Theatre Staff in the Fall of 2000.

Gary still enjoys performing occasionally, but he finds plenty of challenge and artistic fulfillment in his current position, serving the technical needs of Chaffey's Theatre Arts Department. He continues to keep abreast of current technology, including Intelligent (moving) lighting and digital audio mixing. He is currently in the process of developing a vocational program for technical theatre, providing necessary skills to theatre students hoping to enter the work force.

His wife, Claire, is a singer/actor as well and they first met (not surprisingly) doing a show, though they didn't marry until nearly 10 years later in 1991. They live in Fontana with their two children, John and Andrew. He is fond of saying, "Being my boys, 'Dad' is the best role I'll ever have."
