What are Writing
Workshops?
The Chaffey College Fontana
Center offers numerous writing workshops throughout the year.
Workshops count toward the five hour lab requirement for
English 550, 450, or
1A classes.
Writing workshops are offered on a variety of topics. Use the
writing workshops link
for a list of writing workshops, or stop by the success center to
pick up a current copy of the writing workshops schedule. All
workshops at the Fontana Center are offered on a walk in basis, so
it is not necessary to make an appointment to attend.
When is Writing Tutoring available?
Free Writing
tutoring is available from 8am - 8pm, Monday - Thursday. On Fridays, writing tutoring is available from 10am -4pm. Students
will be seen on a
first come first serve basis, so it is a good idea to always make an
appointment to see a writing tutor.
What are writing tutorial sessions
like?
You and a writing tutor work side-by-side discussing your ideas & your
writing. The tutor will identify your strengths & weaknesses as a
writer, & introduce you to the skills & concepts that will enable
you to increase your writing effectiveness. You will develop
critical thinking skills & gain confidence in your ability to
produce competent, college-level writing.
How many lab hours are
required for English class?
If you are taking English 550, 450, or
1A, you must complete five hours of supplemental instruction in a
learning success center. Time spent on Directed Learning Activities
(DLA's),
workshops, and study groups all count towards supplemental
instruction. However, tutoring sessions DO NOT count toward your
required time. You must log out upon leaving
or you will not receive lab credit.
