Why do I have to complete 14 hours in the center?
Curriculum standards for all language courses include lab hours.  Learning a language requires practice and interaction with the language outside of class; this additional exposure to the language improves fluency.

Who stamps and signs my directed learning form?
Any staff member can sign and stamp your form once you show that it has been completed.

How do I know how many hours I have completed?
Every time you sign out, the computer displays the total amount of hours completed.  Credit hours count toward your 14-hour requirement, but noncredit hours (tutoring and use of lab resources) do not.  Students are to monitor their hours by looking at the display when they sign out of the lab. Your instructor will receive a printout of your hours periodically during the semester as well.

How do I check out materials?
If you need to check out answer keys, dictionaries, videos, or other materials, ask for the items in the Resource room.  A staff member will give you the item in exchange for your student ID card.  All materials must be used ONLY IN THE LAB- please do not take any materials outside the center.

What do I do if I need tutoring?
Let the front desk assistant know that you would like to sign up for a tutoring appointment or a walk-in tutoring session.  Appointments can be made 3 hours or more in advance.  When you arrive for your appointment, let a tutor or front desk assistant know that you have arrived.  If you don’t have an appointment, sign in under the “walk-in” section and let the front desk assistant or tutor know that you need to see a tutor.

Does the tutoring cost anything?
