ESL Scholarship

The Carlos D. Torres Scholarship was first awarded in the spring of 2003 and founded by Cecilia Torres Best, Instructional Specialist at the Fontana Success Center.  The scholarship is in honor of her father who believed higher education for his four daughters and one son would bring them a better life.  The scholarship is awarded once a year during the spring semester to ESL students who have demonstrated motivation, progress, and excellence in their pursuit of English and a better life for their future.  Qualifications for the scholarship are as follows:

1.  The student must be enrolled in the non-credit ESL program at the Fontana Center.

2.  He/she must complete a double-spaced, typed paragraph on an assigned topic.

3.  The student must also be recommended by two apprentices or instructors.
