The Resourceful Student is a web based student study tool developed and maintained by students and professors to gather a great deal of previously scattered, or unavailable information into one highly organized, and user friendly resource. Science is extraordinarily difficult to study when the student is away from whatever laboratory resources a college has to offer. With a website like The Resourceful Student, laboratory resources are available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week. On top of setting a precedent for having access to photographs of slides, models, and staining techniques which were previously only available in the laboratory, students will have access to videos and animations explaining concepts recently discussed in their lecture classes. They will also have access to outside resources, such as free talks given by capable professionals in the field of their study, as well as illustrations and explanations offered by students in their field of study who have insights into the learning process that is sometimes overlooked by even the most intuitive professor. Since all information is filtered through professors, the information provided is immediately relevant to the classes students are taking at Chaffey.
This program caters to students of all types, ages, and proficiencies. This resource is free, highly usable, and available at any Internet station, at any hour. Its value as a "by students, for students" grass roots program makes it ideal for students who either do not feel comfortable accessing their professors in a face to face meeting, as well as those students who find study skills learned and passed on by their peers as a more comfortable way to further understand classroom concepts. In the short time that The Resourceful Student has been available, students have found that they learn more when they are attempting to find ways to explain the concepts to their peers. In contributing to the program and one another's knowledge base, students who participate in any way with the betterment of The Resourceful Student are, in fact, contributing to their own learning process.
The Resourceful Student turns the concept of study groups and study skills from a process that must be learned and practiced in a classroom environment into a process that can be learned, understood, and practiced from anywhere, in any environment. This website is the product of a group of collaborative learners: students helping students succeed in all manners of speaking. When overseen by competent, passionate professors and organized by a few web savvy employees, The Resourceful Student has the potential to change the way students learn, study, and contribute to one another's college experience forever.
