Summer Research Opportunities
Copernicus Project’s Summer Science Internship UNLV Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates UCR Plant Cell Biology REU (Research Experience for Undergraduates) Harvey Mudd  Intensive
Ten Week Summer Research Experience for Undergraduates

The internship provides students with a unique opportunity to spend two weeks at UCR learning about university based scientific research, going on field trips and participating in a variety of skill building activities. Fifteen students will be chosen to participate. Each student will be paid a stipend of 1,000 dollars for two weeks of participation and funding for staying in the dorms is available upon request.

Students who are considering becoming a math or science teacher should be strongly encouraged to apply.

Students will work on a research project for a 10 week period with a faculty mentor.  Students will receive a $4000 stipend and housing in a UNLV dormitory.  I cordially invite your microbiology students to apply.

Each REU student is expected to develop a hypothesis based research project in conjunction with their mentor.  The students will prepare a poster and a brief oral presentation summarizing their research at the end of the program.  In addition, there will be an opportunity for every REU student to attend either a regional or national scientific meeting.

Mentors have projects in the following areas of research:

  • Adaptation of Pseudomonas fluorescens to Diverse Soils

  • Bioinformatic Approaches to Gene Regulation

  • Biology of Shigella in Extra Host Environments

  • Magnetotaxis of Bacteria

  • Microbial Ecology of Aquatic Ecosystems

  • Mutagenesis in Nutrient Limiting Conditions

  • Nutrient Cycling

This is a 9-10 week program intended for students from community colleges and small 4-year colleges to be a part of a research lab for the summer.  The students are given their own projects to pursue in the lab under the guidance of a post-doc and the principal investigator of the lab.  They are interacting with other undergrads, grad students, postdocs, and professors on a daily basis for the summer.

The Harvey Mudd College Department of Computer Science is pleased to offer an exciting Research Experience for Undergraduates site in the areas of artificial intelligence, computer systems, and networks with funding from the National Science Foundation. The projects are intellectually stimulating and will give students an opportunity to meaningfully participate in current research.
