Terrence D. Giugni, Ph.D.

Dean, Mathematics and Science Division

Dean of the Mathematics and Science Division since 2004, Dr. Giugni previously served Chaffey College as the Educational Service Coordinator for Biology and Geography from 2001 to 2004.  Dr. Giugni began his service to Chaffey as a part-time instructor of Human Physiology and Core Biology in 1989.  From 1997 until his appointment as Dean in 2004, Dr. Giugni served as a full-time instructor in the Biology Department.  In addition to Human Physiology and Core Biology, Dr. Giugni instructed Microbiology and Introduction to Cell and Molecular Biology.

Dr. Giugni received his B.Sc. in Biological Sciences in 1979 and was awarded his Ph.D. in Biological Sciences in 1985 from the Department of Physiology and Biophysics, at the University of California, Irvine.

Prior to and during his part-time service to the college, Dr. Giugni also worked as a research scientist at a number of locations, including the City of Hope National Medical Center.  Some of his research included the initial interactions between human cytomegalovirus (CMV) and host cells, the early events of virus infection, and the role of cellular genes in these processes.  Prior to studying CMV, Dr. Giugni's research was in the growth inhibitory action of transforming growth factor beta in liver cells and its role in liver cancer and how epidermal growth factor stimulates growth of cells via a kinase cascade.

Dr. Giugni serves and has served on many different committees here at Chaffey College. Currently, he is serving on the Curriculum Committee, the Budget Advisory Committee, and the Educational Equipment Subcommittee.  Additionally, he has served on the Subcommittee to rewrite the Program and Services Review (PSR) self-study process, the PSR Committee, the Policy and Budget Development Committee, numerous hiring committees, and as a representative of the Chaffey College Faculty Association Representative Council.
