About The Program At Chaffey College you can earn a one-year certificate and/or associate of science degree in culinary arts, hotel management, food service management, dietetic service supervisor or dietetic technician. You have the opportunity through internships and work-study experience to demonstrate your competencies prior to graduation. Employers work with you to develop management expertise, problem solving, and team leading skills. You learn through a carefully balanced program emphasizing the theoretical and practical aspects of hospitality management. The Dietetic Service Supervisor and the Dietetic Technician programs are designed to educate students to meet the technical and supervisory needs of a variety of food service operations. The programs also prepare students to be successful in a supervisory or management capacity in either commercial or institutional food operations. Students are taught in a hands-on approach as they work in an actual production kitchen and operate CC’s Café restaurant on campus. Are you? Career Opportunities Job opportunities are excellent for students who receive the Associate in Science Degree or certificate in this program. Graduates of this program will be prepared to work in entry-level management positions of the hospitality industry. Areas of employment include restaurants, hotels, institutions, catering, bed and breakfast operations, and commercial food service. Upon graduation you are eligible for employment in numerous food service, hotel, and instiutional management positions because you have developed the skills and confidence to be successful. Dietetic Service Supervisor The Dietetic Service Supervisor program prepares students for entry-level management in a food service department in health care, community care, or school food service organizations, including entry levels of supervision. The program fulfills the federal and state training regulations for positions in the general acute-care hospitals, acute psychiatric hospitals, skilled nursing facilities, and intermediate-care facilities. The Dietetic Service Supervisor program is approved by the California State Department of Health. Dietetic Technician Dietetic Technicians are employed as managers in a designated unit or department in health care, community care, school food service organizations, county health and community-directed programs of nutrition serviced for the elderly, children or infants. Program Highlights Each program offers students educational and practical experience. Partnerships with community leaders offer excellent connections to local businesses and employment opportunities for students. The work experience component of the program provides resume-building experience. The program takes a hands-on approach as students work in an actual production kitchen and operate CC's Café restaurant on campus. Students in the dietetic supervisor and technician program must complete a mock exam with a 70% pass rate. This entitles students to receive a letter verifying program completion and eligibility for registration or examination by the Commission on Accreditation for Dietetic Education of the American Dietetic Association. Cost Estimates If you attend college full-time you should be able to complete the course in two years at an estimated tuition cost of approximately $700 per year. The Dietetic Technician degree program costs approximately $1400 for the entire program.
Faculty The hospitality management faculty bring their professional experience into the classroom, sharing their wisdom and encouraging students to think in new ways. Many instructors hold prominent management positions with regional hotels, or major restaurant chains and institutions. Advisory Committee Provides Guidance The advisory committee is comprised of local industry professionals who assist you in your education. They help provide practical opportunities for you to learn as interns and through work experience. The committee also helps the college to maintain up-to-date programs and classes that meet the needs of the industry. Committee members serve as mentors and preceptors for students.
You Receive Actual Work Experience Learn the necessary management skills "on the job" by working with local industry such as the Ontario Airport Hilton, Ontario Airport Marriott, the Double Tree Hotel, Heritage Inn, Cask & Cleaver and other prominent hotels and restaurants along with skilled mentors and preceptors. |
