THE LEARNING DEVELOPMENT CENTER (LDC)
Chaffey College Disability Programs & Services (DPS) offers an alternative program for students with disabilities located off-campus. The Learning Development Center (LDC) is a job readiness and job placement program, offering classes and hands-on lab experience to assist students with disabilities in successful job placement. TO THE LDC
Special Classes - Off Campus (LDC)
- Interpersonal Awareness
Students develop relational and communication skills vital to the transition into competitive employment. - Money Management
Students develop practical money application skills such as making change, managing paychecks and budgeting. - Current
Events
Students develop auditory comprehension to enhance the employment skill of listening to and following instructions. In addition, students will be informed of newsworthy events occurring worldwide. - Basic
Computer Skills (optional)
In this self-paced lab course, students receive individualized instruction on the use of a screen reading program to build keyboarding skills. Students develop transferable skills for use in mainstream courses and/or the work force. - Interview skills
Students acquire communication skills useful for succeeding in a job interview. Students learn and practice many common interview questions and responses. - Job Success Skills
Students learn the most important employment dos and don’ts. Students learn the attitudes and behaviors that are vital to gaining employment and being successful on the job.

The lab is used as a means to teach and assess appropriate work skills through a variety of hands-on simulated lab activities including but not limited to Food Services, Office Skills, Janitorial Skills, and Retail/Stocking. The focus is on:
- Basic job skills training in a simulated work environment
- Behaviors and attitudes for success and retention in the work place
- Assessment of job readiness

WAIII is a cooperative program between Chaffey College and the State Department of Rehabilitation (DOR). It is based on an agreement stating that the Learning Development Center shall assist in the provision of vocational rehabilitation services including job placement to individuals with disabilities. Referrals to the LDC WAIII program come from the Department of Rehabilitation. In addition, when LDC students become job ready, the LDC will refer them to DOR and strongly recommend that they become clients. This allows us to offer them more classes and increased job placement services. Involvement in the WAIII program includes the following:
Job Search Preparation & Job Placement classes:
- Job seeking skills including applications, resumes & interview skills
- Online computer job search
- Community integration
Job Club:
- Support and instruction in job search techniques including applications, resumes and interview skills
- Motivation & confidence building
- Participation in an independent job search
The primary goal of the program is the transition and retention of students with disabilities in competitive employment. Job placement and short term job coaching services are available to all eligible students. Enrollment criteria include disability verification in the form of a Psychoeducational Assessment or Psychological Report (including an IQ score) & a student must have the potential for competitive employment.

- Submit an Online Application for Admissions to Chaffey College.
- Complete a tour/pre-intake appointment at the LDC with the Program Generalist by calling (909) 652-7675. This includes a tour of the facility, an overview of the program, introductions to LDC staff, and discussion regarding expectations, focus & goal of the program.
- Bring a copy of your psychological/psycho-educational or medical evaluation for disability verification that has been completed within the last five years and includes an IQ score to your pre-intake appointment at the LDC.
- Fill out an Application for DPS/LDC Services at the time of your pre-intake appointment.
- Take the assessment battery of tests and bring the results with you to your DPS appointment (there are sample assessment test questions, tips and reminders on the Assessment, Orientation, Counseling page). This is required of all Chaffey College students and may be completed at the main campus or one of the off site locations. You must schedule an appointment for testing by calling 941-2116.
- Complete an intake appointment with an LDC instructor. The instructor will review your psychological/psycho-educational or medical evaluation and determine whether or not the program will be appropriate for you.
