The Assessment Test is a free, computerized placement tool (called Accuplacer) used to determine each student's proficiency level in mathematics and English composition.
Chaffey College does not accept assessment scores from other colleges.
WHEN TO TAKE THE TEST
The Assessment Test is to be taken after the Chaffey College Orientation is completed. If you have not completed the Chaffey College Orientation please click here to make your appointment.
Once you complete the Chaffey College Orientation, you may make an appointment to complete your Assessment Test and then an Education Plan appointment.

TYPES OF ASSESSMENT TESTS
The traditional assessment test is a two-part test in math and English. ESL (English as a Second Language The ESL test is for students whose native language is not English and who plan to take ESL courses. All students who plan to take ESL courses must first complete the ESL assessment test. ATB (Ability to Benefit) The ATB test is for certain students who have applied for financial aid, but have been told that they must first complete the ATB assessment test. NOTE: Most financial aid recipients do not have to take this test.

Once you complete your Assessment Test and need an education plan, please call the Counseling Department at 909-652-6200 (Rancho) 909-652-8001 (Chino) or 909-652-7400 (Fontana).
When you come to take the test:
You must present a picture ID (i.e., driver's license, passport, school ID, etc.)
The following items are not allowed in the testing center:
Children (they are not allowed in the testing center, nor are they to be left in the lobby. Please make other arrangements)
Food or drink
You will have up to 2.5 hours to complete the tests, if needed. However, most students finish the test in less than two hours. The test is not timed, so please do not rush through the test.
You should plan to arrive at least ten minutes early. Late arrivals will be required to reschedule.
If you need a temporary parking permit, please make sure that you purchase a day pass from the dispenser in the parking lot and leave it on your dashboard.
You may take all or part of the assessment test as needed, but you may only retest one time in each of the two areas during your enrollment at Chaffey College. In addition, you must wait at least three months after an initial test before attempting a retest.
