An open letter to the community:
Under the direction of the Governing Board, the administration, faculty, and staff of Chaffey College have worked collaboratively to mitigate the cuts to the college stemming from the unprecedented state budget crisis. Because of the millions of dollars in budget cuts we have sustained, our goal has been to stretch existing resources as far as possible to serve as many students as we can. In spite of these efforts, the severity of the cuts has also forced us to reduce direct service to students, including:
We know these efforts have created frustration for everyone—especially our students. We will continue to provide as much service as our funding permits, and we are using this time to review processes and procedures to see if there are creative alternatives that would work more efficiently during this difficult time. Proof of this can be seen in the fact that we have reached an all-time high with our enrollment—we are serving more students (in excess of 22,000) with fewer classes and less support than ever before.
We are confident we will weather this crisis and emerge a better, stronger
college because of it. In the meantime, we ask for your patience and understanding
with the reductions we have made. Rest assured that we will restore classes
and services as soon as additional state resources are made available.
