Jeff Klein
Head Coach, Men's Basketball
Jeff Klein has just completed his ninth season as the head
coach the Chaffey College Men’s Basketball program.
2009/10 was his 25th season overall. He was
named the first Professional Expert to coach Men’s
Basketball at a California Community College in
2001. This title enables Klein to be a full-time coach.
Over the last 9 years with Klein as the coach the CHP
– Chaffey Hustlin’ Panthers have averaged 24 wins a
season (211-78). During that span, Chaffey has been
the most winning program in the Foothill Conference.
Over the last eight years, Chaffey has had six 20+ win
seasons and been to the COA playoffs seven times.
The CHP have also made it into the elite eight in 2005
and 2009. Klein has also been honored as Foothill
Conference Coach of the year. In addition, the CHP
have been Foothill Conference Champions three
times.
The 2008-2009 Panthers had a remarkable year. The
team finished 27-7. The CHP were given the #8 seed
in the COA Playoffs and were rewarded with a first
round bye. The second round was a home game vs a
very talented Bakersfield squad. The Panthers won the
game in dramatic fashion to reach the elite eight. The
CHP ran into a familiar foe who knocked them out in
the elite eight in 2005 Saddleback. A last second three
point shot beat the CHP and ended a great season.
Sophomores who led the CHP were Winston
Robinson (Mountain State), Nick Turner (Minot
State), and Lamar Williams (Columbus State) all
made major contributions.
Coach Klein, at age 23, became the youngest head
coach in Southern California when he took the job at
South Pasadena High School. Before coming to
Chaffey, Klein concluded a dramatic season at Upland
High School where he coached the Highlanders to a
CIF Division 1-AAA title in 2001. Under his
direction, the Highlanders ranked in the Top 10
nationally and won 28 games in a row.
During his nine seasons at Upland, Klein led the team
to three league titles and made the CIF playoffs every
year starting in 1995. Klein has earned top honors in
coaching being named “Coach of the Year” by the
Southern California Interscholastic Basketball
Coaches Association (SCIBCA), Fox Sports West 2
television, the Inland Valley Daily Bulletin, and the
Los Angeles Times. He was also honored as the
“Teacher of the Year” in 1996 from Upland High
School.

Jon Keller
Assistant Coach
Jon Keller is in his ninth season as the lead assistant on the Panther coaching staff, and his 22nd overall season coaching at the high school and collegiate levels. He has helped lead Chaffey to the best record in the Foothill Conference (84-28) with three conference championships during that time. The Panthers have made the playoffs in seven of Keller’s eight years as assistant. They also have finished first or second in the state in scoring in each of the last five seasons.
Keller was an All-League performer at South Pasadena High School where he both played and coached for Coach Klein.
