2008 RECAP - 2009 OUTLOOK
The 2008 Chaffey College Panthers finished the season 5 - 5, fourth in the National Conference and 18th in the final regular season regional poll. The season was filled with its share of ups and downs. Injuries to several key starters early in the season directly ffected the outcome of the season. Chaffey started the preseason strong with three straight wins before the loss of four starters took its toll.

The Panthers began their debut in the new National Conference with a dramatic overtime win at home against Cerritos but lost their momentum and struggled through the rest of the season. We finished the season with a very strong showing against Mt. Sac who eventually played in the title game.

Those Panthers receiving All Conference honors were: Mark Chase RB, Marcus Austin T, Ricky Howard TE, Aaron Mays WR and Alec Hutton DE. The 2008 Panthers produced a number of student athletes who have moved on to four year universities. Those moving on are:

  • Aaron Mays WR, Fordam University
  • Greg Sprowls QB, Sam Houston State University
  • J. D. Corcoran DT, MidWestern State University
  • Brandon Lewis WR, Texas AM Kingsville
  • Eugene Clayborn DT, Texas AM Kingsville
  • Chris Ramos DT, Kansas Wesleyan University
  • Jake Taylor DE, Humbolt State University
  • Alec Hutton, DE, Northern Arizona University
  • Jimmy Morin TE, State University,
  • Anthony Kelly OT, University of Tennessee – Martin
  • Zach Hope DE, Virginia Union University
  • Brian Standley OL, University of La Verne
  • Rydell Moore LB, State University.

On the academic side of the 08 team, there were several players recognized for their accomplishments in the classroom. Selected to the All Academic Teams in Southern California and the state were: Brian Standley – All State Academic Team. Selected to the Southern California Football Coaches Association Team were: Anthony Kelly, Jimmy Morin, Jahmal Rover and Brian Standley.

We wish all the Panthers from last year’s team the very best as they move forward.

Carl Beach has established a winning tradition at Chaffey College not seen before. Between 1947 and 1995 the Panthers had not won a conference championship. In his five seasons as Panthers head football coach, Beach has guided Chaffey to Foothill Conference titles in 1996 and 1998.

Beach’s football roots run deep as he played both offensive and defensive lines for Colton High, graduating in 1967. He played defensive line for SBVC in 1967 and 1968 before red shirting at San Diego State. In 1970 and 1971 Beach was honored as all-conference as a defensive lineman for Cal State Fullerton and earned a bachelor of science in physical education. In 1980 Beach earned his master’s degree in physical education from Azusa Pacific University.

After completing his undergraduate degree, Beach spent the next five years honing his craft as a football coach. His first job was as the defensive line coach at Damien in 1972. He followed that the next year as a defensive line coach for Notre Dame High in Riverside. In 1974 Beach coached the defensive line at SBVC. Beach took over coaching the offensive line at Bloomington High the next season. From 1976 until 1991 Beach was the head coach at Bloomington High and guided the team to a 90-66-3 record, including 48-10 during his last five years as coach. He led Bloomington to seven CIF appearances including 10-0 starts in 1986 and 1987.

Beach took the head coaching job at Chaffey as a walk on coach for his first two seasons, while still teaching at Bloomington. In 1998 Beach became a full-time coach at Chaffey.

Born in Wadena, Minn., Beach’s family moved to Colton when he was 2. He now lives in Alta Loma where he likes to run and workout in his spare time. Beach has two daughters, Tera, 30 and Jenny, 28.

Rob Hadaway
Rob Hadaway
Assistant Head Coach / Defensive Coordinator

This is Coach Hadaway's seventh year as an assistant football coach at Chaffey. He will be working with the defensive backs along with being defensive coordinator for the fourth year. Coach Hadaway has done an outstanding job of putting together an attacking defensive scheme that puts an incredible amount of pressure on the opposing offense. Chaffey's defense has always been one that is aggressive and physical with the ability to make big plays. During the regular season last year, Hadaway's defense ranked Number one in fewest yards allowed overall, fewest rushing yards at 60.6 per game and fewest passing yards allowed at 161.3 per game. Over the last three seasons coach Hadaway has tutored such players as Derek Vitatoe, All State and 1996 Foothill Conference Defensive Player of the Year (Eastern Michigan University); Andre Bishop, region 3 All State Defensive Back in 1998 (Portland State University); Kenny Williams, region 3 All State Defensive Back in 1998 (Arizona State); and lastly, safety/linebacker Jaquwan Brakenridge, region 3 All State Defensive Back in 1998 (University of New Mexico) along with other scholarship caliber athletes. Johnny Harris plays strong safety for the Raiders.

Hadaway graduated from Bloomington High School where he lettered three years in varsity football as a quarterback and free safety. He also played two years at San Bernardino Valley as a free safety.

His coaching experience includes 10 years at San Bernardino Valley coaching the secondary before coming to Chaffey. Along with Coach Beach, Rob was an instrumental part of the success they had in those years. In that time he had the opportunity to coach many Division 1 athletes and future NFL players like Craig Newsome, a first round pick of the Green Bay Packers and Chris Bayne a fourth round pick of the Atlanta Falcons.

Coach Hadaway received his Bachelor's degree from Azusa Pacific. He and his wife, Ann, have three children Amy, Robin, and Robert.
