9/1/09 Alex Hinshaw (SF Giants) and Drew Macias (SD Padres) were recently called back up to the majors. Both players are Chaffey baseball alumni. Five players are continuing their academic journey at colleges and universities nationwide.
8/4/09 Willie Holmes (08-09) was drafted by the Boston Red Sox in the 14th round of the 2009 Major League Draft. Holmes led the Panthers as a designated hitter and outfielder and was named to the All-Foothill Conference team in 2008 and 2009.

6/10/09 Willie Holmes (08-09) was drafted by the Boston Red Sox today in the 14th round of the 2009 Major League Draft. Holmes led the Panthers as a designated hitter and outfielder and was named to the All-Foothill Conference team in 2008 and 2009.
4/20/09 The Panthers took an early lead in Thursday's game against Victor Valley after a double by JJ Costantino and a homerun by Chris Lemus. With 6 runs scored in the fourth, the men took the game out of the reach of the visiting Rams. Lemus once again led the team with three RBIs. Colby Gurney who has had an impressive first season, racked up his ninth win, with 10 strikeouts, Gurney gave up five hits and only one run in 7 innings. Final score 16-1. The men traveled to VVC Saturday for games 2 & 3 of the series, winning 11-3 and 15-2. The men take on local rival San Bernardino Valley this week, Thursday on the road and Satuday at home in a double header beginning at noon.
4/10/09 The Panthers were trailing 8-7 going into the bottom of the 7th inning when Daniel Hall scored the first of three runs for the team. The men then led SWC by 2 which they widened to 3 in the 8th. The Jaguars couldn't battle back, losing 11-8. Xavier De La Cruz got his third win of the season with Colby Gurney pitching the final inning. Sophomore Gerry Hernandez was 5:5 Wednesday with five singles, two runs and an RBI. The team was on the road Thursday, playing Grossmont at Desert (10-8 W) before returning home Friday to play San Diego City College at 2:30 pm. Foothill Conference play resumes Thursday (4/16) against Victor Valley.
4/3/09 The men traveled to Ridgecrest Thursday, taking on the Cerro Coso Coyotes and leaving with a 13-8 victory. The team hosts the Coyotes Saturday for a double header.
3/19/09 The men completed three against Barstow last week - winning all three to stay solidly in first place in the Foothill Conference (8-1). The men have a 12 day break, hosting Rio Hondo Thursday 3/26 at 2:30 pm.
3/10/09 The men traveled to Mt. San Jacinto Saturday, leaving the Eagles with one win and one loss. The team is now 11-6 overall. The men play Barstow this week with an away game on Thursday and a home double header on Saturday.
3/3/09 The men hosted the College of the Sequoias Giants Monday afternoon winning 5-2. Leading the Panthers in hits today were Daniel Hall and Greg Allen with 3 hits each. The Panthers had 13 hits overall. The team hosts Mt. San Jacinto Thursday at 2 pm.
2/24/09 The men hosted the Saddleback Gauchos Thursday afternoon, losing 13-6. Leading the Panthers with 2 runs was sophomore Gerry Hernandez. Willie Holmes, Robert Escalera, Chris Lemus and Greg Allen rounded out the 6 runs for the Panthers. The team traveled to Southern Nevada for contests with CSN and Salt Lake City College. The men fell to SLCC 5-7 but beat CSN 9-7. The team plays Orange Coast this afternoon (rescheduled from 2/17 rain out) at 2 pm on Lowder Field.
2/17/09 The men traveled to Cypress Saturday taking down the Chargers 7-6. Andrew Larsen started for the Panthers and was relieved by Evan Haussner (winning pitcher) at the top of the 6th. Scoring for the Panthers were JJ Costantino, Jesse Gonzalez, Chris Sulcer, Garrett Eichmann, Joshua Kubinski and Gerry Hernandez (2). The game today against Saddleback has been rained out and rescheduled for Tuesday 2/24 at 2 pm. The team will play Thursday against Saddleback. 2/10/09 The men hosted the Mission Eagles this afternoon and played hard to edge out the visitors 3-1. Scoring for the Panthers were the three lead offs, Costantino, Gonzalez and Hernandez. Willie Holmes had 2 RBIs. Pitching for the Panthers were Andrew Larsen (win) and Derrick Duran (save). The Panthers are on the road until February 17th starting with a double header Saturday at Mission. The baseball double header against LA Mission scheduled for Saturday February 7th was rained out. The teams are attempting to reschedule for later this month.
2/3/09 The men traveled to Citrus College Friday to play the second of the 2 game series against the Fighting Owls. Despite an 8-0 shut out earlier in the week against Citrus, the men fell 15-2. JJ Costantino scored first for the Panthers in the 6th inning, his first of two doubles for the game. Also crossing the plate was Daniel Hall who got on base with a double in the 7th and scored off a pass ball. The men take on Cerritos at home Tuesday and LA Mission at home on Wednesday. 1/27/09 The men the Citrus College Fighting Owls this afternoon for the opening game of the 2009 baseball season. The Panthers went 8-0 in today's game. On fire this afternoon was sophomore returner JJ Costantino who had a single, double and triple before being walked twice. Costantino also had 2 RBIs. Also scoring for the Panthers were fellow sophomores Willie Holmes and Gerry Hernandez. Hernandez hit a homerun in the 4th. Freshman Joshua Kubinski also scored for the Panthers today. The Panthers start out the season 1-0 and travel to Citrus Friday for a 2 pm game. 9/18/08 FORMER PANTHER CALLED UP TO THE MAJORS Former Panther Drew Macias was called back up to the major this week to play for the San Diego Padres. 8/5/08 FORMER PANTHER CALLED UP TO THE MAJORS Former Panther baseball player Alex Hinshaw (2004) was called up to the San Francisco Giants last week. Hinshaw played on the 2004 Panther team that made it to the Super Regionals and was instrumental as a closing pitcher. Click here to follow Hinshaw's career online. Read more about Hinshaw's decision to pursue his education at Chaffey and San Diego State before joining major league baseball. 5/12/08 BASEBALL CLOSES SEASON WITH 3RD CONSECUTIVE CONFERENCE CHAMPIONSHIP GAME 1 5/9 -- By the top of the 6th inning in game 1 of the regional playoffs Friday, RCC (#10 seed) was up by 6 over Chaffey (#7 seed) and dominating the game 7-1. The Tigers were the first to score in the 2nd when Tovar hit a single bringing in Jimenez. And then in the 3rd, RCC scored twice more when Madison homered bringing in Hur. In the 3rd, Chaffey got on the board with an RBI by Ryan Delgado, bringing in Gerry Hernandez. Score 3-1. In the 5th Akins scored on an RBI by Krzysiak, taking the score to 4-1. It looked like it was over in the 6th as the Tigers drove in 3 runs when Madison hit a double, bringing in Akins and Duran. But in the bottom of 6th with 2 outs and the bases loaded, the Tigers walked Gerry Hernandez which brought in Jonathan Peters. Then Ryan Delgado hit a grand slam homerun over the centerfield wall bringing in Hernandez, John Manzano and James Koerner and taking the score to 7-6. Today's homerun was Ryan Delgado's 11th this season. Winning pitcher for today's game was Erick Carrillo with a save by Kyle Morgan. The loss goes to Andrew Schile (9-3) who pitched 4 2/3 innings before being replaced by Julian Ramirez who pitched the remainder of the game. RCC returned to Chaffey Saturday to play game 2 of the series. Game 2 5/10 -- Despite bringing in 5 pitchers, the Panthers could not keep the hitting power of Riverside at bay in game 2 of the best-of-three series played at Chaffey Saturday afternoon. Final score 9-1. Riverside was on the board in the first inning with an RBI by Billy Hamilton (his first of 4 hits for the game) bringing in Daniel Duran. In the third, Chaffey came back with their sole run of the afternoon when designated hitter, Willie Holmes singled bringing in Gerry Hernandez and tying the game at 1-1. In the 3rd, RCC 2nd baseman, Duran homered bringing in fellow Tigers Hur and Hamilton for 3 RBIs, taking the score to 4-1. Both teams remained run-less through the 6th until RCC managed to score 5 on a Tovar single, an advance on error by ss, a Hamilton single, an error on pitcher (Wolf) and an Akins single. Score 9-1. Winning pitcher for the game was Nicholas Hoover who pitched 8 1/3 innings before being replaced by Sean Urena for the final 2 batters. The loss goes to Steven Streety (3-3) who pitched 2 2/3 innings and giving up 4 runs before being replaced by Tim Redmon, Andrew Steinmeyer, Bret Wolf and Erik Bastio. This is the final game of the 08 season for the Panthers (30-11) who pulled off a 3rd consecutive conference championship and nine players named to the All-Conference team this year. 10th seeded RCC moves on to the Super Regionals to played next weekend at a yet to be determined site.

The men faced off against College of the Desert last week, winning all 3 games (16-6, 4-3 and 12-11). Fans were on the edge of their seats Saturday as the Panthers came from behind in the final inning of both games, beating the Roadrunners by one run. The team plays #7 Antelope Valley this week for the final games of the regular season.
4/17/08
The team took on the Ventura Pirates yesterday on Lowder Field for the first home game of the season. It took until the 5th inning for the score to change from 0-0 between the Panthers and the visiting Pirates of Ventura College today on Lowder Field. In the bottom of the 5th with bases loaded, David Gwin was struck by a pitch by Zack Thornton bringing in Josh Manzano. Then in the 7th, Willie Holmes scored on an RBI by Jonathan Costantino taking the score to 2-0. First up to bat in the 8th, Ryan Delagado homered over the centerfield wall taking the Panthers to 3-0. Then in the top of the 9th, the Pirates scored 3 on a homer by Jose Vargas, tieing the game at 3-3. In the 10th, Ventura scored again on a Tyler Bevan RBI. The Panthers pulled out all stops in the bottom of the 10th scoring 2 when Michael Suring brought in Mychal Johnson and Ryan Delgado to win the game. Andrew Steinmeyer started for the Panthers pitching the first 5 innings. The win went to Trevor Sturgill. Jason Martyn and Carlos Nakamura also took the mound today. The team travels to Santa Ana today.
