Art Department Personnel ![]() Misty Burruel Assistant Professor, Art misty.burruel@chaffey.edu Misty Burruel is an Assistant Professor of Art in the Art Department at Chaffey College. She received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate University with an emphasis in Painting in 2002 and her Bachelor of Arts degree in Studio Art with an emphasis in Painting from California State University, San Bernardino in 2000. She joined Chaffey's Art Department in 2002 as Part-Time Faculty in 2D Design, 3D Design and Mixed-Media. Prior to teaching at Chaffey College, she taught at the University of Redlands, California State University, San Bernardino, California State University, Fullerton, Crafton Hills College, and Riverside Community College. Misty's studio expertise includes a range of traditional and contemporary media, and her teaching experience includes a variety of genres including Painting, Drawing, Sculpture, Installation, and Mixed-Media. Misty Burruel is a broadly trained studio artist whose sculptures, installations and video works have been exhibited in many Southern California group exhibitions, including UCR California Museum of Photography, Newspace Gallery, Laguna Art Museum, Robert V. Fullerton Art Museum, Gallery 825, and an international show "From America" at the MoCA Minsk, in Belarus. Misty's work was represented by Newspace Gallery in Los Angeles where she featured two solo exhibitions in 2004 and 2006. Her work has been reviewed in ArtForum, ArtForum International, Art Papers, and the Los Angeles Times. ![]() Stan Hunter Associate Professor, Art stan.hunter@chaffey.edu www.stantonhunter.com Stan Hunter exhibits his work internationally, is in public collections on both coasts, and has been a guest lecturer/teacher at the Art Center College of Design in Pasadena. He is an Associate Professor of Art at Chaffey College in Rancho Cucamonga (ceramics and sculpture). Previously he ran the ceramics program at Scripps College in Claremont, CA for 5 years, and was a Visiting Assistant Professor of Art at Pitzer College, also in Claremont. His work includes vessels, sculpture and installation, both indoors and outdoors. He also has interest and backgrounds in music, cognitive psychology, Eastern thought, and tennis. | ![]() John L. Machado, Jr. Assistant Professor, Art History john.machado@chaffey.edu www.johnmachado.com John Machado joined the Art Department of Chaffey College in 2005. After completing undergraduate work in art history at San Diego State University he earned his graduate degree at the University of Texas at Austin specializing in the culture and art history of Pre-Columbian Mesoamerica. He has worked at various museums and galleries and taught art history at universities and colleges in California, Oregon and Texas. Machado teaches courses in art history covering the complete Western survey as well as the Ancient Americas, Africa and the islands of the South Pacific. His current research focuses on the iconographic analysis of the ancient mural tradition along the Gulf of Mexico in the state of Veracruz. He also has a passion for seeing the world and has traveled extensively throughout the Americas and Europe. ![]() Cynde Miller Associate Professor, Art cynde.miller@chaffey.edu Cynde began her artistic education early, at about the age of three in the after school art program run by her mother in their garage. Prior to attending college, Cynde studied papermaking and ceramics at the Kansas City Art Institute and performance/video and painting at the San Francisco Art Institute. Cynde received her BFA in Studio Art at the California Institute of the Arts, which focused on installation art and small sculpture. Cynde continued her studies in studio art at UC Irvine where she completed her MFA. Cynde has been teaching at Chaffey College since 1996, becoming a full time instructor in 2000. Cynde has been in numerous group shows and has had one-person shows at the Angels Gate Cultural Center in San Pedro, CA. and O'Jalla Gallery in Los Angeles, CA. Cynde's other interests include hiking and Yoga. She is also a voracious reader, usually enjoying two-dozen novels or more per year. ![]() Jan Raithel Professor, Art Coordinator of Art and Digital Media jan.raithel@chaffey.edu Jan Raithel received her Master of Fine Arts degree from Claremont Graduate School after earning a BA from the University of Missouri and following post-graduate work at the University of Montana. Prior to becoming a Professor at Chaffey College she taught at Pitzer College in Claremont and at the University of New Mexico in Albuquerque. Drawing from two of her longtime interests in art, she initiated two courses that have become important components of the art curriculum at Chaffey: Mixed Media Studio and Theory and Women Artists in History. |
