Study Abroad Opportunities to explore different countries and cultures are provided each year, either through instructional programs or short-term travel experiences. Find out more… Spanish language majors may lead to positions in teaching, research, journalism, government, or business. Languages are a vsaluable asset to scientists, historians, lawyers, sales persons, musicians, travelers — in fact, to almost anyone. Language study affords new perspectives on the world and on one’s mother tongue. It is intriguing to read newspapers, magazines, poems, and stories in Spanish, and even more fascinating to talk with people from, or in, Spanish-speaking regions. Douglas Duno Instructor, Spanish d.duno@chaffey.edu ccblackboard.chaffey.edu Professor Douglas José Duno Guerrero was born in the Paraguaná Peninsula in Venezuela where he began his higher education studies. He obtained a B.A. in Spanish from California State, Fullerton; then, he transferred to University of California, Riverside where he finished a M.A. and completed a doctorate in Spanish Literature. His dissertation highlights works created by Spanish Female Playwrights of the Twentieth Century. He began to teach at Chaffey College on fall 1998. He has taught and created different courses from beginning Spanish to literature courses. Professor Duno is the president of the Inland Empire Chapter of the American Association of Teachers of Spanish and Portuguese. He is an active member of Modern Language Association, California Language Teachers Association, and Inland Empire Teachers of Foreign Languages among others. He initiated the language program with Cuernavaca, Mexico and supports the various study abroad programs in the college. Professor Duno who plays “el cuatro” sings with the Claremont Chorale and is a paid soloist for several churches in the area. He enjoys the theater, the opera, reading, dancing, gardening and traveling.
Rachel Hanna Instructor, Spanish rachel.hanna@chaffey.edu Rachel Hanna holds a BA in Spanish and Comparative Literature from Indiana University and an MA in Spanish from the University of California Los Angeles. She has taught Spanish and ESL for the past nine years. She worked as an adjunct instructor for the Los Angeles Community College District from 2001-2004 teaching Spanish language as well as Hispanic literature, history and civilization courses at Pierce College, LA Harbor College and West LA College. She was the owner/director of LA English Academy—a private language school where she taught Spanish and ESL for 2 years. Rachel’s passions are teaching and traveling. She has lived in Madrid and Valencia, Spain and often travels to both Spain and Puerto Rico to visit family and friends. She is a member of ACTFL, AATSP and CLTA. Tamari Jenkins Instructor, Spanish tamari.jenkins@chaffey.edu Tamari Jenkins is an Assistant Professor of Spanish at Chaffey College and has taught here since January of 2002. She received her B.A. in Spanish from Pacific Union College in Angwin, CA. She then went on to complete a M.A. in Spanish Linguistics from the University of California, Riverside. Her Masters emphasis was on Spanish Dialectology and she studied the influences of West African languages and dialects on the dialects of Caribbean Spanish. Professor Jenkins is also the founding member of an organization called African-American Linguists, which is dedicated to the promotion of world language learning in the African-American community. In addition to maintaining a full-time teaching load, Tamari is the faculty advisor to the Spanish Club, and she is heavily involved with the promotion of study and travel abroad programs on campus. Every spring she takes groups of students and faculty on a tour of Spain, and she plans to begin taking groups to Cuernavaca, Mexico to participate in the college's summer study abroad program. Professor Jenkins resides in Rialto, CA with her husband and their two cats. She enjoys music, salsa dancing, reading, traveling, cooking vegetarian cuisine, and spending time with her church family and friends.
