CHAFFEY COLLEGE TO PARTICIPATE IN THE GREAT CALIFORNIA "SHAKE OUT" ON OCTOBER 20, 2011
(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) Chaffey College will join other colleges, universities, schools, and businesses in the Great California ShakeOut exercise on October 20, 2011. At 10:20, the entire college community which includes students, faculty, staff on all three Chaffey College campuses will participate in the earthquake simulation.
The drill known as The Great California ShakeOut has become an important annual statewide event. It offers an opportunity for individuals and emergency responders to prepare now so they can survive and recover following the next damaging earthquake.
At 10:20 a.m. the campus community will be notified via the college's various communications systems that the campus has experienced a major earthquake. These messages will further test the college's communications channels through text messaging, voice messages, telephone announcements, e-mail and website notices.
Upon being notified participants will drop, cover and hold and then evacuate from the college buildings. Representatives from the Chaffey College Campus-Community Emergency Response Team (C-CERT), Health and Safety Committee, and Campus Police are assigned to thirty-one evacuation zones and are trained to assist and provide direction to participants throughout the earthquake drill.
College administration and emergency personnel will perform a "table-top" exercise and debriefing exercise held immediately following the drill at the Emergency Operations Center.
