PAUL GOMEZ, CHAFFEY COLLEGE TRUSTEE, REGIONAL LEADERSHIP HONOREE

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CA.) - Chaffey College Governing Board Trustee, Paul Gomez was recently selected as the 2015 Pacific Regional Trustee Leadership honoree by the Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT). He will be honored at the Association’s 46th Annual Leadership Congress, October 14-17 in San Diego. He is also nominee for the 2015 M. Dale Ensign Trustee Leadership Award, a national honor bestowed by ACCT.

“Mr. Gomez is an excellent ambassador of Chaffey College and supporter of community college education,” said Dr. Henry Shannon, superintendent/president. “He contributes to our reputation as being a world class institution and his commitment to the students of the district and his leadership at the local, state and national level is to be commended.”

In addition to his duties as the Vice President of the Chaffey Community College Governing Board, Gomez currently serves on the California Community College Trustees (CCCT) board as Second Vice President and is a member of the Community College League of California. He is also a past president of the National Association of Latino Community College Trustees and was a member and officer of the California Association of Latino Community College Trustees.

Trustee Gomez was appointed to the Chaffey College Governing Board in 1990 and has been re-elected six times in 1991, 1995, 1999, 2003, 2007, and 2011. He has served as Governing Board president four times.

As a community and education advocate, Mr. Gomez founded the Esperanza Scholarship Foundation, which provides college scholarships to local high school students. The Scholarship is named after his mother whom he said supported him through his education. In addition, Gomez has served in a number of capacities in national, state, and local organizations associations, focusing on diverse issues and education. He is the co-founder of two regional community college and CEO associations: the Inland Valley Trustees and CEO Association (IVTCEO) and the San Gabriel/Foothill/Foothill Association of Community Colleges (SanFACC).

The Association of Community College Trustees (ACCT) is a non-profit educational organization of governing boards, representing more than 6,500 elected and appointed trustees who govern over 1,200 community, technical, and junior colleges in the United States and beyond. Located in Washington, D.C., ACCT is a major voice of community college trustees to the presidential administration, U.S. Congress, the Departments of Education and Labor and more. The Pacific Region is comprised of colleges in California, Nevada, Idaho, Washington, Arizona, Utah, Oregon, Alaska, Hawaii, British Columbia/Yukon, and the Pacific Islands.
