ROBERT HADAWAY NAMED CHAFFEY COLLEGE PANTHERS FOOTBALL COACH
Robert (Rob) Hadaway has been named as the 2013 football coach of the Chaffey College Panthers, replacing retiring Head Coach Carl Beach. Coach Hadaway was named to the position by Dr. Eric Bishop, Dean of Athletics and Physical Education, and will assume the duties of head coach immediately.
Coach Hadaway is a tenured member of the Chaffey College faculty, teaching physical education courses since 2000. Since joining the college, he has also served as an assistant football coach under Carl Beach for 12 years. Coach Hadaway played football at Bloomington High School and San Bernardino Valley College before transferring to Azusa Pacific University, earning both his B.S. and M.Ed.
Hadaway expressed enthusiasm for the new position and for the challenges that lie ahead, “I am very thankful to the Governing Board, Dr. Shannon, and Dr. Bishop for this opportunity,” stated Hadaway. “I am committed to Chaffey College and look forward to leading the football program forward,” he added.
“Rob is up to the challenge of making Chaffey College competitive on the field and molding young men off the field,” added Dr. Bishop. “We look forward to a new and exciting football season.”
Carl Beach has retired from his position as head coach, a role he has played since 1996 (record 118-56). During his 17 years at the helm, the Panther football program has made 10 bowl appearances and won three conference championships. Beach has received Coach of the Year honors at the conference, state and national association level and served as the president of the state football coach’s association in 2005. He has also been instrumental in the transfer of more than 200 student-athletes to colleges and universities throughout the United States. Beach will remain as the interim athletic director, overseeing the college’s 14 intercollegiate teams.
“I’m very excited to have Rob take over the program as head football coach,” said Beach. “He is prepared to take the football program to another level. He is committed to student success and will make an excellent ambassador for the college.”
Panther football competes in the American Mountain Conference along with Southwestern, Mt San Jacinto, San Bernardino Valley, San Diego Mesa, East Los Angeles, Victor Valley and El Camino-Compton. The program has a 120 year history dating back to the early days of the college; which celebrates its 130th anniversary next year.
