CHAFFEY COLLEGE EXPERIENCES 8.74% ENROLLMENT INCREASE AT START OF FALL SEMESTER – EXPANDED NON-TRADITIONAL COURSE OFFERINGS

(RANCHO CUCAMONGA, CHINO and FONTANA, CA.) - Chaffey College officials are pleased to report a significant increase in student enrollment at the start of the fall semester which began on Monday, August 17. As of Monday 20,374 students are enrolled in classes on the Rancho Cucamonga, Chino and Fontana Campuses. The college is serving 1,638 more students than last year at the same time, an 8.74% increase from fall 2014. The fall 2015 semester is anticipated to be the largest student population in the college’s 132 year history.

Students attending classes on the Chaffey College Rancho Cucamonga campus account for 15,854 students (10.27% increase); the Fontana campus serves 3,811 students (14.44% increase), the Chino campus serves 3,761 students (9.2% increase), and 2,262 students are enrolled in online courses. Many students enroll in classes on multiple campuses or through both traditional and online programs.

Governor Brown’s 2015-16 state budget allowed Chaffey College to increase the number of courses this academic year. In the fall 2015 semester 1,948 courses were offered, 181 more classes than in the fall 2014. The college has significantly expanded student service and instructional support services, especially at the Chino and Fontana campuses, to support the larger student population.

Chaffey College has also expanded its popular Weekend College program in the fall semester adding Sunday courses, growing Friday and Saturday offerings including expansion to Fontana and Chino, and increasing weekend library and success center hours at all campuses. The program is designed for students unable to attend traditional college courses Monday through Friday. More than 70 weekend classes in a variety of disciplines are offered in the fall semester and an additional 40 are scheduled for the spring term. A complete list of weekend classes beginning Friday, August 21st can be found at http://www.chaffey.edu/schedule/sched_15-16f_weekend.pdf. Registration is still available for these courses.

The college’s Fast Track program provides enrollment opportunities for students throughout the fall and spring semesters. The Fast Track program consists of a variety of 8-week accelerated courses with start times in August, October, January, and March. This program has proven to be very successful for both the college and students. Session 2 will begin October 19 with registration beginning September 28. A complete schedule of Fast Track courses for the fall can be found at http://www.chaffey.edu/schedule/sched_15-16f_fast.pd.

“Evening classes, Weekend College, and Fast Track programs are designed for working adults who wish to complete their education outside of the traditional college schedule. We really listened to our students and took their busy lifestyles into account when designing and expanding these programs,” said Dr. Henry Shannon, Chaffey College Superintendent/President. “The same is true for added classes and services at our Fontana and Chino campuses. It is our goal to truly serve the residents of our district in their communities. Cutting down on the commute for our students allows them more instructional, study, and personal time.”

Established in 1883, Chaffey College was one of the first colleges to be established in California and offers associate degrees, as well as vocational and transfer programs in a wide variety of subjects. Courses are offered at campuses in Rancho Cucamonga, Chino, Fontana, and Ontario as well as online through the Distance Education program.
