Excellence in Online Teaching Program

Professional Development is proud to announce a new program exclusively for faculty. The objective of this program is to create a cadre of master online instructors who would later assist and mentor other faculty in their own goal of becoming an online instructor.

This program will be pedagogy based, not technology based. The program will examine and showcase best practices, as well as foster conversation about the teaching and learning process. Participants are expected to be open to new methodologies, and indeed even new pedagogies.

The application process and details are currently being worked out, but here are some of the highlights:

  • A series of pedagogic instructional workshops and seminars that focus on creating active, student-centered, constructivist distance education classrooms (distance education here means either totally online, hybrid, or enhanced)
  • 12 faculty in 6 two-hour workshops
  • The workshops would be taught by campus experts.
  • A Final presentation to college community will be required
  • Faculty will be paid $1,000 for their participation.
  • This series would also satisfy the pedagogy aspect (part 5 in the DE plan) of District Distance Qualification requirements
  • Instructional use of technology focus, not technology training focus
  • Expanding faculty ideas and attitudes toward traditional classroom teaching methods
  • Focus on using technology to improve students’ basic skills
  • The series would create a community of online teachers who would in turn mentor other knew online instructors
  • Will begin in February
