Wave Please include the following Department policy in your Chaffey English syllabi:

Plagiarism, an unlawful act which is defined as the misrepresentation of the published ideas or words of another as one’s own, will not be tolerated in Chaffey College English courses. At the discretion of the professor, plagiarism may result in zero points for the assignment and/or failing the course.

Be diligent about enforcing this policy, but do not accuse a student unless the accusation is grounded in some evidence such as the recognition of a style or ability change or the known misuse of the source.  Use your judgment in determining the malice and willfulness of the offense.  You may want to consult a peer in handling particularly difficult cases.

In clear cases of plagiarism, please request an academic integrity form from the Dean's office.
