WHAT IS ALTERNATE MEDIA?
Alternate Media is any instructionally related material which is converted or altered from its
original state so it is accessible and usable by people with disabilities. This may include, but is
not limited to, Braille, ASCII text, large print, recorded audio, electronic text formats and video
WHAT IS AN ALTERNATE MEDIA TECHNICAL SPECIALIST?
The Alternate Media Technical Specialist is an individual who under the supervision of the
Director of DPS provides District wide leadership and training in the area of access technology
for faculty and staff to benefit students with disabilities. Provide expertise in web page design
and distance education delivery methods to ensure accessible format for persons with
disabilities. Additionally, oversee the conversion of print materials and video tapes to an
alternative media format, (i.e. Braille, closed caption), and provide training to students using a
variety of alternate technology. Please find below a list of documents that will assist students
interested in DPS alternate media services.
