Panther Swim & Dive competed in the South Coast Conference Championships last weekend with seven men placing in the championship finals. Congratulations to:

The men defeated El Camino and fell to undefeated Pasadena Friday. Leading the men in the pool with first place finishes:

The team takes on Mt SAC and Long Beach Friday at Mt SAC. Both Mt SAC and Long Beach are undefeated this conference season with Chaffey in 2nd place. This week's meet will determine the South Coast Conference top 3 positions.

Panther Swim & Dive hosted the Annual Chaffey Invitational last weekend with the men posting a 5th place finish with 298 points. Leading the Panthers with Top 8 finishes were:

The men's swim team finished in 7th place at last weekend's Mt SAC Invitational with a final score of 244 points. Diver Daniel Miller led the Panthers with a 2nd place finish in both the 1 meter and 3 meter competitions. Ramtin Ashraghi finished 4th (1 meter) and 5th (3 meter). Also finishing in the top 20:

The men's diving team had a strong showing at the South Coast Conference Diving Pentathlon with Daniel Miller finishing in 2nd place for both the one and three meter boards. Ramtin Ashraghi finished 3rd in the 1 meter and 5th in the three.

Chaffey men’s swimming team took on both Mt San Antonio College and Rio Hondo College in the final double dual meet of the year at their home pool at Chaffey College.

Against Rio Hondo, the Panthers came out on top by winning every individual event and finished with a score of 149 – 38.
Leading the Panthers was freshman Kyle Cauldren of Citrus Valley HS with wins in the 1000 freestyle (10:17.91), 200 backstroke (2:07.44) and 200 Individual Medley (2:05.93). Double event winners included David Dominguez winning the 200 freestyle (1:55.67) and 100 butterfly (58.24); Chris Vasquez winning the 100 breaststroke (1:12.33) and 200 breaststroke (2:37.15); Thomas Harper winning the 200 butterfly (1:58.93) and 500 freestyle (4:56.89); and Elitt Golnik winning the 50 freestyle (22.84) and 100 freestyle (51.58). Single event winners included Matt Rohde, 100 backstroke (1:01.76) and Sean Barraza, diving (156.65). Chaffey won the opening event, 200 medley relay with a winning time of 1:52.59. Swimmers on the relay were Rohde, Vasquez, Golnik and Sean Briones.

In the dual meet against Mt SAC, the Panthers lost out to the Mounties who are one of the top teams in the state this year. Chaffey ended up winning 3 events against Mt SAC. Events and athletes were 200 butterfly, Thomas Harper; 200 Individual Medley, Kyle Cauldren and diving, Sean Barraza. Next contest for the Panthers will be the Pasadena City College Invitational April 4th & 5th.

The Chaffey College Women's Swim team raised its record to 5-1 with wins over El Camino 128-104, and LA Trade Tech 184-8. Christen Harper won all for of her individual events, 1000, 500, and 200 freestyle. Salena Zapata won both the 50 and 100 breaststroke, and Analissa Hurtardo won the 100 Butterfly. The 400 Freestyle relay of Lauren Loya, Jackie Vicario, Hurtardo, and Harper also took first. Chaffey swims next Friday at home 12:30 pm vs first place Mt SAC and Rio Hondo.

MEN 1-1 AT PASADENA DUAL (3/17/14)
The Chaffey College men’s swimming team came out on top in their dual meet with Pasadena City College by a score of 164 to 76. Winning 10 of the 13 individual events was the key to winning this dual meet. Leading the Panthers was freshman sensation kyle Cauldren out of Citrus Valley High School in Redlands with his victories in the 100 yard backstroke (59.10), 200 backstroke (2:07.77) and 500 freestyle (4:57.73). His time in the 500 was the first time this season under 5 minutes. Double winners were sophomores Thomas Harper, 1000 freestyle (10:19.65), 200 butterfly (2:00.89) and sophomore David Dominguez, 200 freestyle (1:58.40) and 100 breaststroke (1:11.20). Individual winners were Josh Bare, 1 meter diving (188.80) and Chris Vasquez, 200 breaststroke (2:39.84).
The men’s 200 medley relay team also took their place on top of the victory stand with a winning time of 1:46.49. The swimmers were Cauldren, Harper, Dominguez and sophomore Elitt Golnik.

The Panthers lost to the Vikings by a score of 166 to 104. Chaffey won 6 events but couldn’t overcome the depth of the Long Beach team. Winning for the Panthers was Thomas Harper, 1000 freestyle and 200 butterfly; Kyle Cauldren, 500 freestyle; Josh Bare, diving; Elitt Golnik, 100 freestye and David Dominguez, 100 butterfly.

The next meet for the Panthers is a double dual meet with El Camino and Los Angeles Trade Tech to be held at Chaffey College on Friday, March 21st starting at 12:30.

The Chaffey / Riverside invitational is fast becoming becoming one of the top swimming and diving meets offered each year. With the addition of one of the best teams this year in the state and being run in the best community college aquatic facility in the state, this meet saw outstanding swim times for this time of the year.

The Chaffey Panthers men’s team finished in 5th place with 350 points and coach Mike Dickson was very pleased with the effort. With the double workouts everyday leading up to the meet, the swimmers responded with fast swim times. Leading the team again were returning All-American sophomore Thomas Harper and freshman Kyle Cauldren. Between the two of them they were finalists in 7 individual events and 3 relays. Thomas placed in the 500 freestyle (4:55.0), 400 individual medley (4:24.0), 1650 freestyle (17:01.3) and 200 butterfly (2:01.0). Kyle finaled in 200 individual medley (2:05.2), 100 backstroke (59.6) and 200 butterfly (2:05.9). Stepping up to help the team to their 5th place finish were divers Josh Bare, Sean Barraza and Kasen Merritt who all placed in the finals in both 1 and 3 meter competition.

The Panthers' next competition is an SCC double dual meet against Pasadena City College and Long Beach City College Friday, March 14th at 12:30 pm.

In a close fought meet that came down to the last relay, Chaffey came up 2 points short with their loss to Cerritos College by a score of 141 - 139.

The Panthers were again led by the duo of sophomore Thomas Harper and freshman Kyle Cauldren who each won 3 individual and were also on the winning 400 freestyle relay. Thomas won the 1000 freestyle (10:31.5), 200 breaststroke (2:21.3) and 200 individual medley (2:07.5). Kyle took 1st places honors in the 100 and 200 backstroke (59.0 / 2:08.95) and 500 freestyle (5:08.3). The winning relay (3:29.2) also included Elitt Golnik and David Dominguez. In addition, sophomore David Dominguez won the 100 and 200 butterfly (57.1 / 2:06.9) and freshman Kasen Merritt won the diving event with 155.50 points.

Chaffey continues their training as they prepare for the upcoming Chaffey College Invitational scheduled for March 7th & 8th to be hosted at Riverside City College. The meet schedule begins at 1:00 on Friday and 9:00 on Saturday.

The Chaffey College Swimming Team started of the season by sweeping a double dual meet with Cerritos, and East L.A.  Chaffey defeated Cerritos 154 to 108, and East L.A. 181 to 84. The Panthers were led by Freshman Christen Harper, and Lauren Loya each winning 3 individual events. Harper won the 200, 500, and 1000 yard freestyle events while Loya won the 50, 100 yard freestyle and the 50 yard Fly.The 400yd Freestyle Relay Team of Harper, Loya, Analissa Hurtardo, and Jackie Vicario also took first. Chaffey (2-0) swims next Friday in the Chaffey Invitational, at Riverside City College starting at 1pm.

MEN TAKE 4th AT WATERMAN (2/12/14)
After a successful showing the day before in the Waterman Pentathlon, the Chaffey Panthers came back into the pool and finished 4th overall with 363.5 points. Chaffey’s top finish in the individual events was Kyle Cauldren, a freshman out of Redlands Citrus Valley who finished 1st in the 400 yard individual medley with a time of 4:29.93. This was less than a second off last year’s state championships qualifying time for the event. Kyle was also a finalist in the 100 backstroke with a 2nd in a time of 1:01.22.

Additional championship finalists were Thomas Harper, 2nd in the 100 butterfly (56.25), 3rd in the 100 breaststroke (1:06.88), David Dominguez, 5th in the 100 butterfly (58.92), 8th in the 100 breaststroke (1:14.08), Matt Rohde, 7th in the 100 backstroke (1:03.81), Elitt Golnik, 8th in the 100 backstroke (1:04.66), Zach Cox, 7th in the 100 breaststroke (1:11.90).

Chaffey’s top relay was a 1st in the 600 Iron Man relay with a time of 6:12.59. Swimmers on the relay were Thomas Harper, Kyle Cauldren and Matthew Rohde, a sophomore from Chino HS. Additional top 3 finish in relay events was the 350 butterfly relay which placed 2nd and on that relay was Kyle Cauldren, Thomas Harper and David Dominguez. Chaffey’s next competition will be the South Coast Conference Pentathlon. The swimming will take place on Friday, February 14th at East Los Angeles College and the diving will be on Saturday, February 15th at El Camino College.

The Chaffey Women’s Swim  team won the Waterman Relays (Palomar) by almost 300pts over 2nd Place San Diego Mesa last weekend. In the Pentathlon portion, freshman Christen Harper took 2nd among 77 participants. In the individual portion, Chaffey had wins by freshman Lauren Loya 50 Freestyle 26.77 and sophomore Erica Fuentes 1000 Freestyle 13:26. In the Relay section the Panthers had wins in the 350yd Freestyle Relay with Harper, Loya, and Jackie Vicaro, the 200yd over/under relay with Brittney Degraff, Cassandra Llanes, Jessie McCorkle, and Loya. 600yd Ironwomen with Harper, McCorkle, and Analissa Hurtardo, and the 400yd Freestyle Relay with Harper, Hurtardo, Vicaro and Loya. Chaffey swims next at the South Coast Conference Pentathlon next Friday at noon at East LA College.

Panther Swim and Dive opens the 2014 season Friday and Saturday at the Annual Waterman Pentathlon at Palomar College.
