SEVEN PANTHERS HONORED AS ALL-SOUTH COAST CONFERENCE (11/21/14) Congratulations to Jade Dye, Brandon Howell, Dominic Kirby, David Tapia, Blake Schwartz, Michael Lear, and Spencer Swezey for being named to the 2014 All-South Coast Conference team.
PANTHERS GO 1-2 AT SCC CHAMPIONSHIPS, FINISH 4TH (11/8/14) The Chaffey men fought hard over the weekend, defeating El Camino before falling to conference 1 and 2 - Long Beach and Cerritos. The men finish the season #4 in the highly competitive South Coast Conference.
PANTHER MEN FIGHT HARD AT SADDLEBACK (11/3/14) The Chaffey men struggled through the final tournament of the season at Saddleback College going 1-3 on the weekend. The tournament started well with a 9-7 defeat of Santa Ana College, completing the season sweep at 3-0 against the Dons. The Friday night contest against host Saddleback found the Panthers falling 14-9. Saturday morning's contest versus regionally ranked Palomar College had the Panthers losing 12-4 before completing the weekend with a loss to the Jaguars of Southwestern College 13-6.
The Panthers were led on the weekend by the fine play of Sophomore Dominic Kirby totaling 3 goals, 3 assists, and 17 steals. Freshman Jade Dye carried the load offensively adding 8 goals on the weekend with 23 steals. Other offensive contributors were Blake Schwartz with 5 goals, Brandon Howell 3 goals, Michael Lear 2 goals, Matt Ryan 2 goals, Spencer Swezey 2 goals, Richie Kearney 1 goal, Brett Santos 1 goal, and Brett Rhode 1 goal. David Tapia totaled 40 blocks and 4 steals for the weekend.
The Panthers begin the SCC Conference Tournament on Thursday morning at 10:30 am vs. El Camino in the quarterfinal match at MSAC.
CHAFFEY MEN 1-1 YESTERDAY (10/23/14)
The Chaffey Panther Men won their first SCC conference game yesterday defeating LA Trade Tech 23-6. It was an impressive offensive showing with sophomore Blake Schwartz leading the way with 6 goals. Sophomore Brandon Howell added 5 goals and 3 steals. Freshman Mike Lear had 4 goals, Richie Kearney had 2 goals, while Brett Rhode, Dominic Kirby, Justin Grani, Jade Dye, Parker Chorich had one goal with Jonathan Mejia scoring his first goal of the season. David Tapia had 6 blocks, 2 assists, and 3 steals in the cage.
The second game of the day was a hotly contested game against the Beavers of Cal Tech. The Panther men fought hard but fell 15-13. The Sophomore class represented offensively again as Blake Schwartz had 4 goals, Spencer Swezey added 3 goals, and Brandon Howell had 2 goals. Mike Lear had 2 goals, with Justin Grani and Brett Rhode added a goal each. Jade Dye had 5 steals for the game. David Tapia had 9 blocks in the contest.
The men are off until the final tournament before conference when they play next weekend at Saddleback College.
PANTHERS FIGHT HARD AGAINST MT SAC (10/16/14) The Panthers dropped a hard-fought home contest to rival MSAC 13-6. It was a very defensive game in the first half with the halftime score 3-1 in favor of the Mounties. The second half saw more offense but the Panthers came up short being outscored 8-4 in the 3rd quarter. Blake Schwartz had 2 goals and freshman Matt Ryan had 2 goals to pace the offense. Brandon Howell and Spencer Swezey added a goal each. David Tapia had 8 blocks and 3 steals. The Panthers take a break until next Wednesday when they take on LA Trade Tech, followed up that night at Cal Tech.
PANTHERS SHOWCASE TALENT AT FOUR-YEAR SCHOOLS (10/13/14) The Panthers had a positive showing versus two four-year schools on Saturday at Occidental College. The Panthers fell to host Occidental 14-6 in the first game. Brandon Howell led the scoring with 3 goals, while Dominic Kirby, Jade Dye, and Michael Lear added a goal each. David Tapia had his best game of the season with 15 blocks in the cage.
The Second game of the day had the Panthers losing to Mercyhurst College 17-10 in a much better game. Sophomore Blake Schwartz scored 6 of the Panther's 10 goals. Jade Dye added 3 goals and Michael Lear added 1 goal. David Tapia had 9 saves in the cage. Four of the sophomore players met with the coaches at Oxy and Mercyhurst as they look to transfer after they have finished their playing careers at Chaffey.
Chaffey Men play host to rival MSAC at home on Wednesday afternoon at 4:15 pm.
CHAFFEY MEN TAKE 2ND AT SADDLEBACK TOURNEY (10/7/14) The Chaffey men had a strong showing at the Saddleback tournament over the weekend going 3-1. The Panthers avenged two earlier season losses in this tournament defeating Saddleback College 13-7 and El Camino College 9-8. The Panthers also defeated Santa Monica College for the second time 11-9 before falling to Cerritos College in the Championship game 16-6. Offensively Blake Schwartz led the way with 11 goals, Brandon Howell added 10 goals, and Jade Dye 9 goals throughout the weekend. Michael Lear added 6 goals, Spencer Swezey had 3 goals, Dominic Kirby had 3 goals, and Parker Chorich and Justin Grani added 1 goal each. Defensively Blake Schwartz added 17 steals for the weekend as well. Jade Dye had 13 steals on the weekend as well. David Tapia finished the weekend with 36 blocks, 5 assists, and 11 steals. The Panthers will not play again until Saturday Oct. 11 when we travel to Occidental College to take on the Tigers and the Lakers of Mercyhurst College.
MEN STRUGGLING IN CONFERENCE PLAY (10/2/14) The men dropped a tough contest at El Camino College yesterday 12-8. Blake Schwartz scored 3 goals, Michael Lear had 2 goals, Brett Rhode, Spencer Swezey and Jade Dye added one goal each. David Tapia had 12 saves in the cage. The men travel to Saddleback this weekend for a tournament on Friday and Saturday.
PANTHERS GO 2-2 AT MESA TOURNEY (9/29/14) The Chaffey men had a solid weekend at the South of the Border Tournament splitting the weekend 2-2 with losses to Fullerton College (15-7) and host San Diego Mesa (14-9). Saturday was a good day with wins over Santa Monica College (11-8) and avenging last Saturday's defeat to the Southwestern College with a 12-11 win. Offensively Blake Schwartz led the way with 11 goals and 5 steals on the weekend. Jade Dye added 8 goals and 11 steals, Brandon Howell had 7 goals and 6 steals, Spencer Swezey had 6 goals and 7 steals, Parker Chorich and Brett Rhode each had 2 goals and Travis Sapp and Michael Lear each added a goal each on the weekend. David Tapia had 41 saves on the weekend with 13 steals. The Panthers travel to El Camino College on Wednesday for their third SCC conference match.
MEN FALL TO DEFENDING STATE CHAMPION (9/25/14) The Panthers traveled to the home of the defending state champions, Long Beach City College, and fell 21-8 in the second conference contest of the season. The team battled hard for the entire game and were outscored in the second half only 8-5. Blake Schwartz led the way with 3 goals, 1 assist and 3 drawn exclusions. David Tapia had 11 saves in the contest. The Panthers head down to San Diego Mesa College this weekend for the South of the Border Tournament where they will face Fullerton, San Diego Mesa, Santa Monica, and Southwestern.
MEN GO 1-3 AT MT SAC (9/22/14)
The Chaffey Men faced some tough competition at the Mt SAC Invitational Friday and Saturday, going 1-3 on the weekend. The Panthers started the tournament with a 13-12 loss to Southwestern and a 19-8 loss to host host Mt SAC. Saturday morning saw the Panthers lose a close game to Saddleback 17-13 before finishing the tournament with an 8-5 win over Santa Ana College.
For the weekend the Panthers were led by sophomore Brandon Howell totaling 12 goals on the weekend. Sophomore Blake Schwartz had 9 goals over the weekend. Other goal scorers for the weekend were Jade Dye 7, Brett Rhode 6, Dominic Kirby 2, Michael Lear 2, Spencer Swezey 1, and Brett Santos 1. Defensively David Tapia had 41 saves in the cage for the weekend. The Panthers continue conference play at Long Beach on Wednesday.
PANTHERS FALL TO CERRITOS IN CONFERENCE OPENER (9/18/14) The men traveled to Cerritos yesterday, falling to the Falcons 17-6 in the 2014 South Coast Conference opener. Matt Ryan, Dominic Kirby, Jade Dye, Michael Lear, Brandon Howell, and Spencer Swezey all had 1 goal each for the Panthers. Kirby led the way on defense with 5 steals.
David Tapia made 6 saves in the cage and had 4 steals as well. The Panthers will be at the Mt SAC Invitational this weekend with games against Southwestern College at 3 pm and Mt SAC at 5:20 pm.
MEN FALL TO VENTURA - OPEN CONFERENCE SEASON WEDNESDAY (9/15/14) The men took on Ventura Saturday, falling to the Pirates 14-6. Brett Rhode and Jade Dye scored 2 goals a piece. Blake Schwartz and Dominic Kirby added a goal each as well. Dominic also led the team with 4 steals. David Tapia had 7 saves and 4 steals in the cage. Steven Slattery added 1 save as well. The team opens the South Coast Conference season Wednesday at Cerritos College.
MEN OPEN 2014 SEASON WITH BACK-TO-BACK WINS (9/8/14)
The Chaffey Men's Water Polo team started the season off with 2 home wins against Santa Ana College and San Diego Miramar on Saturday.
The Panthers defeated Santa Ana by a score of 16-8 with Spencer Swezey leading the way with 4 goals and 2 assists. Brett Rhode made his college debut with 3 goals, 1 assist, and 5 steals. Blake Schwartz had 3 goals, Brandon Howell had 2 goals, Jade Dye had 2 goals and 6 steals in his collegiate debut, and Dominic Kirby and Parker Chorich added a goal each. David Tapia had 9 saves in goal and Steven Slattery had 1 save in the win.
The second game against San Diego Miramar had the Panthers doubling up the Jets 18-9. 3 Panthers led the way with 3 goals, Dominic Kirby, Justin Grani, and Jade Dye. Brett Rhode, Blake Schwartz, and Parker Chorich added 2 goals each, while Richie Kearney, Brandon Howell, and Spencer Swezet chipped in 1 goal each. Spencer Swezey also had 6 steals in the contest. David Tapia had 2 saves, while Steven Slattery had 5 saves in the win.
The Panthers travel to Ventura College next Saturday for a non conference match against the Pirates.
