Theatre Arts

The Theatre Arts program provides students with both the theory and practical experience necessary for either employment in beginning levels of professional theatre or transfer to a theatre arts major in a four-year institution. Various productions are offered to provide students with a broad range of practical training.

The Theatre Arts program is designed to give the serious theatre student the theory, applied training, and performing experience required for employment in the industry. Another positive program feature is that our professional faculty transmits a passion for theatre to the student.

VOICES: Past and Present

Directed by Christa El-Said

In VOICES: Past and Present, Act One will consist of pieces written by celebrated American playwrights Susan Glaspell, Luis Valdez and Amiri Baraka. Each individual “one-act” will challenge audiences to examine traditional gender roles, cultural stereotypes and issues of race inequality.

Act Two will feature original, contemporary works written and developed by Chaffey College students. Their work, told from their personal perspectives, aspires to bring to light the complex human struggles and experiences that we face in the world today.

Audiences will be invited to participate in a “talkback” with the cast, crew, designers and facilitators immediately following the show each night. This production may unmask many difficult but relevant topics. The opportunity for an open discussion will be an important element in the full theatrical and academic learning experience.

*The pieces in this production may include sensitive subject matter and offensive language and is not suitable for young audiences.
