(Rancho Cucamonga) On in honor of our U.S. Veteran's, Chaffey College officials will dedicate the new Veterans Resource Center on Thursday, November 11, 2010 at 1:30 p.m. Studies show that many combat veterans have difficulty adjusting to civilian life, especially adjusting to college. Chaffey College has a number of U.S. veterans many have recently returned from Iraq (OIF) or Afghanistan (OEF) and it was important to establish a center designed for student veterans.

The Veterans Resource Center provides a relaxing place for students to meet, receive college information, as well as information on veteran's benefits. It also provides a sense of community amongst those who have served in any branch of the United States military. The center is located on the Rancho Campus in the AD building adjacent to the Marie Kane student services/administration building, near the library and academic buildings.

The Chaffey College Veterans Resource Center offers:
  • Admissions information
  • Veteran's education benefits information and programs
  • Information on counseling
  • Peer to peer support groups for student veterans
  • Workshops and Veterans organization contacts
  • Vets club information
"We created a resource center for student veterans that is convenient and comfortable," said Dr. Shannon. "We welcome all veterans and their families, this is their resource center," he added

In addition, Chaffey College established a Veteran's Response Team (VRT) in 2010 to address the unique needs of Veteran students. The VRT includes faculty, staff and administrators committed to ensuring that our Veteran students receive the service and support they need to enjoy their experience at Chaffey and successfully complete their educational goals.

Veteran Resource Center staff serve as a liaison between veteran students and the Department of Veteran Affairs. The center is equipped to inform veteran students of the appropriate forms required for VA educational benefits and answer questions concerning veteran educational benefits and/or educational experiences.
