For Immediate Release

Despite looming budget cuts and rising fees, Chaffey College employees and students have pitched in during the holiday season to provide needed toys and personal items to financially challenged families throughout the college’s seven city district.  Collection of toys on all three of the Chaffey College campuses continues through Monday, December 21.

Chaffey College Classified Senate began collecting new stuffed animals for its 3rd Annual Teddy Bear Hugs for Kids Drive last month.  Over two hundred animals were collected and delivered to Loma Linda Children’s Hospital.  “In addition to the stuffed animals, we also received $300 in cash donations that will be used to purchase items from the children’s wish lists,” commented Classified Senate President Trisha Albertson. The employee group also collected toiletries and other items from faculty and staff for The House of Ruth which will be delivered next week.  Additionally, Classified Senate raised $3,100 at its annual holiday luncheon.  These funds will be used for student and employee scholarships.

Thursday night, The Office of Student Activities and Associated Students of Chaffey College (the college’s student government) hosted it 18th Annual “Night with Santa.” The magical evening provides bikes and toys to families of Chaffey students who find it difficult to provide non-essential items during the holidays. Santa and Mrs. Claus were on hand to greet children and distribute gifts. “It meant the world to me to see my son receive the gifts and I was overwhelmed by the generosity of ASCC and the campus as a whole,” stated Eddie Sanchez, a Chaffey College student who attended with his six year old son, “Not only was my son excited but it was a joy to watch all the other student’s families delight in the program."  This year ASCC was able to serve 90 families through the generous donations of students, faculty and staff.

Collection of toys continues at the college’s campuses in Fontana, Chino and Rancho Cucamonga through December 21st.  Students are encouraged to drop off a toy at the bookstore during book buyback for a chance to win cash and prizes.  Community members are also welcome to donate at any of Chaffey College campus.  For collection dates and locations visit or call 909/652-6560.
