Dr. Sherrie Guerrero is the new Vice President of Instruction at Chaffey College afgter being appointed by the Governing Board at its regular scheduled meeting last week, April 23. Guerrero served has served as the interim Vice President of Instruction since June 2008. Prior to this she was the Dean of Instructional Support and as the Dean of Language Arts at Chaffey College. Prior to coming to Chaffey College, Guerrero was the Dean of Humanities at San Bernardino Valley College. As an educator, Guerrero has taught courses in speech communications at several institutions including San Bernardino Valley College, California State University, Fullerton, Riverside Community College, and College of the Desert.

Guerrero holds as Ph.D. in Educational Leadership from the University of Southern California, a M.A. Speech Communication from California State University, Fullerton, B.A. in Communication Studies from California State University, San Bernardino, and an A.A. in Liberal Arts from San Bernardino Valley College.

"As a career public servant and a product of the community college system, I am honored and thrilled to have been given this opportunity," exclaimed Dr. Guerrero. "I am looking forward to working with our dedicated faculty and staff to ensure we help students realize their educational goals and dreams."

Dr. Guerrero brings a student-centered philosophy to Chaffey College. She believes that each student should have the same educational opportunities and that it is our job to help students get to where they want to be. She added, "Students and faculty are on this journey together."

As Vice President of Instruction, Guerrero will oversee Chaffey College's educational programs and services for a student population of more than 20,000. She will also manage seven academic deans with more than 1100 full and part-time faculty and staff and a budget of $22 million.

Guerrero came to Chaffey College at an exciting time with an enrollment increase and a capitol improvement program in progress, while being faced with state budget cuts. Serving as interim Vice President of Instruction since June 2008, Guerrero has several accomplishments including the development of a teaching and learning center to support the needs of faculty. She, along with the along faculty members, Dr. Christine Flores and Laura Hope, also developed an educational program for inmates at the California Institute for Women at Chino.

"Dr. Guerrero is a person of remarkable accomplishment and ability," said Dr. Henry Shannon, superintendent/president. "As she continues in the role of Vice President of Instruction I'm confident that she will apply her determination and enthusiasm into this challenging position," he added." Dr. Guerrero's creative energy and leadership skills are outstanding."

Guerrero is active in the local community. She and her husband reside in Cherry Valley.
