(Rancho Cucamonga) Exciting changes occurred at the regular scheduled Chaffey College Governing Board meeting on Thursday, December 12, 2013. Two board members were sworn in and the 2013-14 officers were elected.

Janice Rutherford, San Bernardino County Supervisor, Second District attended the meeting to administer the oath of office for two trustees: Kathy Brugger and Katie Roberts. Brugger and Roberts were reelected to the Governing Board as a result of the November 5, 2013 election.

Also at the December Board meeting, members of the Governing Board elected next year's officers. The 2013-14 Chaffey Community College Governing Board officers are:

President - Lee McDougal
Vice President - Gary George
Clerk - Paul Gomez
Member - Katie Roberts
Immediate Past President - Kathy Brugger

Lee McDougal, retired city manager at the city of Montclair, was elected to serve as the 2014 Governing Board President. McDougal was appointed by the Chaffey College Board in April 2000, was elected to the Board in 2001 and reelected twice in 2003 and 2011.

Gary George, retired external affairs manager at Verizon who has served on the Governing Board since 2000, will hold the Vice President position. Katie Roberts, a retired captain with the Ontario Police department was reelected in November will serve as Governing Board clerk. Paul Gomez who was elected to the Governing Board in 1990 is the member and will serve as the representative on the San Bernardino County Committee School District Organization. While Kathy Brugger, the 2013 Board President will hold the title of Immediate Past President.

"I am honored to be elected by my fellow trustees to serve as the 2014 president of the Governing Board," exclaimed McDougal. "I'm looking forward to an exciting and successful year for Chaffey College," said McDougal.

"Mr. McDougal is a superior Governing Board trustee who is dedicated to students and Chaffey College," said Dr. Henry Shannon, superintendent/president. "The members of the Governing Board work exceptionally well together and as they take their new positions, I'm sure this upcoming year will be equally as successful as 2014," added Shannon.

The role of the governing board is to directly represent the community of the college's district in determining policies and making decisions, which govern the operation of the district and the college.
