(Rancho Cucamonga, CA) Tonight, May 22, Chaffey College will recognize the accomplishments of graduates for the 2013-14 academic year at the 2014 commencement ceremony held in Grisby Stadium on the Rancho Cucamonga Campus. The processional begins at 6:00 p.m. with a reception immediately following.

Dr. Henry Shannon, superintendent/president will give the 2014 commencement address. Joining Dr. Shannon on the platform will be the Chaffey College Governing Board, Faculty Senate President Ardon Alger, Chaffey College Foundation Vice President, Dr. Loren Sanchez, ASCC president Kevin Cudoto, and valedictorian Oscar Bonilla.

Chaffey College faculty and staff continue to focus on increasing graduation rates. Even with the challenges the class of 2014 faced they earned more degree and certificate than any other Chaffey College graduating class. A total of 3,302 awards are expected to be conferred at tonight's ceremony.

"We are very proud of the Chaffey College Class of 2014," stated Dr. Henry Shannon. "These are amazing students, each with an inspiring story of obstacles and accomplishments," he added. The Class of 2014 has made history with their achievements; 1,959 students earned a degree or certificate, 108 more students than in 2012-13.

2013-14 Graduation Statistics:
  • Total number of graduates for the summer, fall and spring semesters: 1,959 graduates
    • (108 more gradates than in 2012-13)
  • Total number degrees and certificates conferred in 2013-14: 3,302 awards a 5.7% increase over 2012-13
    • (most in the college's history)
  • Total number of Associate in Arts or Science degrees earned in summer, fall and spring semesters: 2,030 degrees awarded
    • (1,473 AA degrees, 557 AS degrees)
  • Represents an increase of 334 associate degrees over last year (19.7% increase)
  • Total number of certificates to be conferred in 2013-14: 1,272 certificates
Award Earner Characteristics:
  • The average grade point average of 2013-14 degree/certificate earners is 3.10 (GPA)
  • The youngest degree/certificate earner is 17 years old, while the oldest degree/certificate earner is 67 years old.
  • 31.9% of degree and certificate earners are 30 years of age or older; 16.9% are 40 years+; 6.9% are 50 years+
