(Rancho Cucamonga) The Governing Board for the Chaffey Community College District announced its officers for 2011. The announcement was made at the December Board regular meeting.

The 2010 Chaffey College Governing Board Officers are:

President – Katherine "Katie" Roberts
Vice President – Paul Gomez
Clerk – Lee McDougal
Member/ Representative to the San Bernardino County Committee on School
District Organization – Kathleen "Kathy" Brugger
Immediate Past President – Gary George

Katie Roberts was voted in as Governing Board President. This is the second time Roberts has been elected as the Board's leader; she served as Board president in 2005. Since her appointment in 2001, Roberts has made significant contributions to the Governing Board and the college. She is a graduate of Chaffey College and Cal Poly Pomona. She also served on the Chaffey College Foundation Board prior to becoming a Board trustee. Roberts was Ontario's first female police captain, a position she held until her retirement in 2004.

Paul Gomez was elected to the position of Board Vice President. Gomez is the college's longest standing Chaffey College Governing Board member, serving as a trustee for 20 years.

Lee McDougal was elected to the Board Clerk position. McDougal has appointed to the Governing Board in 2000. He was the City Manager for the City of Montclair for 34 years until his retirement last year.

Kathy Brugger, will assume the role of representative to the San Bernardino County Committee on School District Organization. Brugger has spent her career as an educational leader. She was a school board member before being elected to the Chaffey College Governing Board in 1993.

Gary George, external affairs manager at Verizon Communications, will step down from his presidency and assume role of Immediate Past President. He will also be the alternate representative to the San Bernardino County Committee on School District Organization.

"Roberts combines wit, intellect, and a passion for education with an ability to connect with her fellow Board members. I look forward to her leading the Governing Board this year," said Dr. Henry Shannon, superintendent/president. "We are so blessed with a talented Governing Board," said Dr. Shannon. The Governing Board works extremely well together to execute the college's mission, "improve lives within the diverse communities it serves through equal access to quality, learning-centered occupational, transfer, general education, and foundation programs."

The role of the Governing board is to directly represent the communities within the Chaffey College district in determining policies and making decisions which govern the operation of the district and the college.
